PGA DFS First Look: Rocket Mortgage Classic 2022 DraftKings + FanDuel Picks

Just two weeks left before the FedEx playoffs begin, and most of the world’s best will be on the stage yet again. This week, the tour heads to Detroit, Mich., for the fourth straight year for the playing of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Sponsored by Rocket Mortgage and hosted by Detroit Golf Club each of the four years. Rumors are still swirling about this week’s lowest ranked player in the field, as Patrick Cantlay heads to Detroit for the first time in his career. A few other big names are joining him, after taking a week off from The Open Championship, as Cameron Young, Will Zalatoris and Max Homa are all scheduled to tee it up ink this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. So let’s learn a bit more about the course and the other golfers competing this week, and where we can go with the first look at our PGA DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel golf lineups.

Four Par 5s and another four par 4s under 400 yards make this course a rather easy setup for PGA Tour pros. The traditional back-to-front Donald Ross sloping greens are the biggest defense the course against absurdly low scores.

Course History at Detroit Golf Club | Claim $200 at BetMGM

Typically three years of history at a course gives us an indication of what it takes to be successful at that course, but there hasn’t been much consistency at all from the Tour pros. Kevin Kisner, J.J. Spaun and Troy Merritt are the only three in the field to have made the cut in all three appearances here. As well, only Kisner & Merritt have multiple top-10s at the event. Only two additional golfers are added to the list when looking for golfers finishing in the top 20, as Kisner and Merritt are joined by Sepp Straka and Cameron Tringale. A few others of note that have made the cut in both of their appearances over the last three years at the Rocket Mortgage Classic are Brandon Hagy, Chris Kirk, Mackenzie Hughes, Henrik Norlander, Max Homa, Patrick Rodgers and Nick Taylor.

2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic Strokes Gained Review

When smashing driver off the tee is the play for most of the field, the discrepancy for Strokes Gained off the Tee becomes minimal. The golfers that finished in the top 10 last year gained a total of 3.2 strokes, the lowest among the four strokes gained categories. Even around the green, work was more important than off the tee last year.
