Jose Altuve ($5,500 DK/$4,600 FD)
You’re not going to fool anyone in tournaments playing him, but this is possibly the best play on the slate as Tyson Ross cannot miss bats, and Altuve should be able to make him pay. Ross has allowed a .410 wOBA and 6.85 xFIP against righties since the start of 2017, which are some of the worst numbers in all the MLB in that time. Altuve’s power plus stolen base upside in this matchup against Ross makes him one of the top pay-ups on the slate.
Ryan Braun ($4,400 DK/$3,400 FD)
Braun is a nice contrarian option in tournaments today as he should come at low ownership against Jose Quintana. Quintana is a guy we respect, but Braun has some elite numbers against lefties, while Quintana can struggle against righty power. Since the start of last year, Braun has a hard-contact rate over 45% and a K-rate just over 10%, while Quintana allows over 35% hard-contact to righties in that same span. This game also has some of the best hitting weather as the roof will be closed in Miller Park.
Avisail Garcia ($3,600 DK/$3,100 FD)
Garcia has been one of the unluckiest hitters in the majors over the first week and change, but he’s made solid contact with Fiers almost every time he’s faced him. In four batted-ball events, Garcia’s average exit velocity against Fiers is over 100 MPH, and Fiers posted a fly-ball rate of almost 43% last year with almost 2 HR/9. This is a spot where Avisail Garcia can turn some of his early season misfortune around.
