DraftKings and FanDuel Spotlight Pitchers, Wednesday 5/2

Jake Hari

There are quite a few pitchers I’m interested in for tournaments, especially with DraftKings pricing down a bunch of guys with big K-upside. If you’re looking for more analysis on each game on the main slate, check out the MLB Strategy Video. Awesemo will update this article later today, so make sure to check back before lock!

Zack Godley ($7,600 DK/$9,000 FD)

Godley is a fantastic play tonight on DraftKings against the Corey Seager-less Dodger lineup. He should get 4 players in the lineup that are striking out over 25% of the time against right-handed pitching in Taylor, Kemp, Hernandez, and Muncy, and we know that Godley is great at missing bats. He ranks 17th in Whiffs/Swing% on the year with a 12% Swinging-Strike rate, so while he does struggle with hard-contact at times, Godley should be able to rack up strikeouts tonight, making him a great play on DraftKings especially.

Jacob deGrom ($11,500 DK/$10,500 FD)

deGrom’s last three starts look great in every aspect, posting 22.3%, 14.4%, and 16.4% Swinging-Strike rates while racking up at least 8 strikeouts and 7 innings in each of those games. His teammates Noah Syndergaard couldn’t get the job done last night against the Braves, but deGrom is mowing through everyone right now and I expect more of the same tonight. The Braves have been tough against righties, but deGrom just dominated them 10 days ago so I’ll pay up for him my tonight on DraftKings over Strasburg and Nola.

James Paxton ($8,000 DK/$8,800 FD)

Paxton is simply underpriced on DraftKings for not only being a very good pitcher, but being at home as a -180 favorite against the A’s. Oakland has been a tough matchup for lefties this year ranking 11th in OBP, 11th in K%, and 2nd in Hard-Hit%. There’s no doubt there is some power up and down their lineup, but Paxton has mitigated hard-contact against righties very well this year (86.6 MPH Average Exit Velocity) while striking out 33.3% of them. DK is begging you to take him at this price as a big favorite, so I’m sure he will be chalky, but he’s a tough guy to ignore tonight in any format.
