MLB DFS Picks Monday 7/25: Spotlight Pitchers & Top Stacks Today

Monday, July 25, kicks off another lazy summer week of baseball with an 11-game featured slate starting at 7:05 p.m. ET. Let’s get into the top MLB DFS picks today for pitchers and stacks for DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy baseball lineups.

DraftKings & FanDuel MLB DFS Picks Today (7/25)

Main Slate: Rays at RHP Austin Voth — 5.3 implied runs

Though he has changed uniforms and now pitches for the Orioles instead of the Nationals, there is no disguising the poor results of Austin Voth. In 101 combined appearances as a starter and a reliever over the last five seasons, the 30-year-old right-hander has a 5.44 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 1.67 home runs per nine innings. Voth allows power to hitters of either handedness, so it makes sense to target the raw power options from Tampa Bay. Ji-Man Choi, Brandon Lowe, Isaac Paredes, Randy Arozarena and Brett Phillips provide a variety of options up and down the lineup at various salaries and positions. The Rays can be employed as a full stack or a secondary stack in all formats tonight.

Evening Slate: Brewers vs. LHP Kyle Freeland — 5.2 implied runs

The Stokastic Top Batters Tool had us target the batters swinging the stick from the left side of the plate yesterday against Chad Kuhl, and now it would like to reverse course with a southpaw on the mound in Kyle Freeland. While Freeland is a solid pitcher, he does not generate enough strikeouts and allows just enough power to opposite-handed hitters that he is someone to target both at home and away from Coors Field.

Unlike Sunday, when the Brewers alternated lefties and righties in their lineup, tonight we should see a full complement of right-handed batsmen, save for Christian Yelich. Hunter Renfroe has been on a tear, with multiple hits and a home run in each of his last three games. He has a long track record of success against southpaws, as do his compadres Andrew McCutchen, Willy Adames, Luis Urias and Mike Brosseau ($2,500 on DraftKings and $2,100 on FanDuel).

Late Slate: Astros at RHP Adam Oller — 4.9 implied runs

This is looking like a mismatch, as Houston should feast on Adam Oller. The path to The Show was certainly a winding one for Oller, who spent three years with Northwestern State before being chosen by Pittsburgh in the 20th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. Oller toiled in Single-A for four seasons before the pandemic curtailed the 2020 MiLB season. Fast forward to 2022 and Oller has spent time in the minors with four different organizations as well as a disastrous three-start stint in the Australian Baseball League.

Across 27.1 MLB innings this season, the soon-to-be 29-year-old has allowed 26 earned runs, 19 walks and eight strikeouts on his way to an 8.56 ERA and 1.976 WHIP. Even with a few Houston hitters dinged up, the Stokastic Top Stacks Tool likes the Astros as one of the best options on all slates tonight.

Yordan Alvarez (hand) and Jake Meyers (elbow) are dinged up, though if they miss this game, others will see elevated opportunities or preferable slots in the batting order. The usual suspects are the coveted targets, with Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, Chas McCormick, Jeremy Pena and Yulieski Gurriel being the preferred order of preference when considering projected production, popularity, price and positional eligibility.

Best MLB DFS Pitchers (FREE MONEY: BET $10 TO WIN $200)

Primary Target: LHP Max Fried at Phillies — 3.8 implied runs

  • DFS Salary: DraftKings $10,500 | FanDuel $10,500

Max Fried has been locked in, allowing only one home run in his last nine starts and two runs or fewer in seven of those appearances. The Phillies are far from a pushover, though they do perform better against right-handed pitchers. Tonight’s projected lineup has a 24.5% two-year-trailing strikeout rate against southpaws and a pedestrian .138 ISO. Fried has 14 quality starts, which ranks fifth in the league and makes him an easy recommendation on both DraftKings and FanDuel as the top pitching option on the board.

Secondary Target: RHP Jake Odorizzi at Athletics — 3.2 implied runs

  • DFS Salary: DraftKings $7,800 | FanDuel $9,400

We can skip Jake Odorizzi at his absurd salary on FanDuel; however, on DraftKings he is a safe and solid SP2. In a scheduling twist, this will be the third straight start for Odorizzi against Oakland, and while that typically would raise an eyebrow, these have been well spaced out and the Athletics offense is truly not one to shy away from. In the last two starts, across 12.1 innings, Odorizzi allowed 10 baserunners, three runs, one home run and one walk. This was balanced out by a dozen strikeouts and one victory. It makes sense to go back to the well one more time.

Wild Card Target: LHP Aaron Ashby vs. Rockies — 3.7 implied runs

  • DFS Salary: DraftKings $7,700 | FanDuel $7,400

Aaron Ashby is talented, and he just signed a five-year deal with Milwaukee that includes two club options that could extend the contract to seven years with a healthy $46 million going to the young lefty. Though the Rockies are solid against lefties, they are still not a daunting lineup, and we can easily work Ashby into our rosters on both DraftKings and FanDuel with Monday’s appealing salary. The workload has been inconsistent for the 24-year-old, which does mute his upside, though it is also what is suppressing his cap figure tonight. We know he can rack up strikeouts in a hurry, and as long as we get 80 pitches from him, he should be able to produce a top-five pitcher score in this matchup.

Additional Opportunities

Tyler Gilbert should be targeted in the props market with his distinct lack of strikeouts. Though his 3.5 over/under on his strikeout prop may feel low, the under is actually in play. The Stokastic MLB Projections have him for 3.1 strikeouts, giving him a 61% probability of failing to surpass the over. In his last three starts, spanning 14.1 innings, he has totaled four whiffs. Only once this season does he have more than three strikeouts, and that was against the Dodgers in a game where he had six strikeouts but also allowed four home runs. Tonight the Giants will be rolling out a lineup loaded with right-handed batsmen that rarely strike out. There is a decent chance they knock Gilbert out of the game in the early innings, which bodes well for this wager.
