Boom/Bust NBA DFS Picks & Projections Today
NBA DFS Play: Giannis Antetokounmpo : $11,900 DraftKings/$12,300 FanDuel
25.4% DraftKings Boom/22.2% FanDuel Boom
The matchup has changed significantly, but Giannis Antetokounmpo is yet again the highest-projected player in Stokastic’s projections. With Anthony Davis and Stephen Curry out and Joel Embiid and LeBron James questionable, Giannis is the clear-cut best pay-up option on the slate. His boom percentage is respectable despite the tough matchup and will likely increase throughout the day if Embiid and/or James are unable to play. The Raptors lead the league in steals while ranking in the top 10 in defensive rating and points allowed.
Giannis has posted over 80 DraftKings points in three straight games, and he is coming off a career-high 55 points last night. He shot 20 of 33 from the field and even made a shocking 15 of 16 from the charity stripe. Playing on a back-to-back, Jrue Holiday got ruled out and Khris Middleton remains out, boosting the ceiling for Giannis. Monitor the status of all of these studs in Stokastic’s starting lineups page. So much can change from now until lock, but it is clear right now that Giannis is the best pay-up option on this large 12-game slate.

NBA DFS Play: Jalen Brunson: $7,000 DraftKings/$7,500 FanDuel
43.5% DraftKings Boom/34.1% FanDuel Boom
Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson is leading the way in Stokastic’s Boom/Bust Tool with the highest boom percentage for both DraftKings and FanDuel. Immanuel Quickley has emerged as a great play as well, but his salary has skyrocketed. R.J. Barrett remains out with a finger injury, making both Brunson and Quickley look like great options in a cupcake matchup against the Spurs. Brunson returned last game from a hip injury and scored 24 points while contributing six assists and four rebounds. He played 39 minutes, so health is no longer an issue.
Even for the Knicks, who are not the most potent offense in the league, playing against the Spurs brings out the best in everyone. The Spurs rank dead last in defensive rating this season, as they are allowing a league-high 121 points per game. The Knicks are nearly double-digit home favorites with an implied total of 118.25 points. Brunson’s first year with the Knicks has been a success, as he is averaging over 20 points and 6.5 assists for the first time in his career. He is currently projected to be one of the highest-owned players on both sites.
NBA DFS Play: Wendell Carter Jr.: $6,400 DraftKings/$6,500 FanDuel
26.1% DraftKings Boom/22.0% FanDuel Boom
Steven Adams is a great value play on DraftKings at $5,400 and has the second-highest boom percentage, but Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. looks like the better value for both sites. The Magic only have nine available players, and a few of those options are borderline G-League talent. Playing with limited bodies, Carter has the third-highest value on FanDuel with his power forward eligibility in Stokastic’s projections. He served his one game suspension last game, while others are still serving their time for the altercation against the Pistons last week.
A few key players who are out for the Magic are Bol Bol, Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs, and Mo Wagner. Those players being out will solidify Carter playing as many minutes as he can handle. In his third season with the Magic, Carter is averaging a career-high 16 points per game while shooting 52% from the field. He is averaging 8.4 rebounds per game and has a great chance to add to those totals, as the Thunder rank 26th in rebounding percentage this season. Carter is another player with high ownership tonight.
NBA DFS Fade: Tyrese Haliburton: $9,100 DraftKings/$9,500 FanDuel
46.0% DraftKings Bust/62.5% FanDuel Bust
Normally a fade recommendation is a little higher priced, but with so many question marks up top, this one dips down into the upper mid-range pricing tier.
Fading players against the 76ers has become a strong trend this season. Add Tyrese Haliburton to that list, as he has a very high bust percentage, especially on FanDuel at 62.5%. Haliburton is in the optimal lineup less than 2% of the time on both sites for this slate. He is coming off of a game where he only had 37 DraftKings points against the Raptors in 32 minutes.
The 76ers defense ranks third in defensive rating this season while allowing only 108.3 points per game, which is the second lowest in the league. Playing at the fourth-slowest pace, this is a nightmare matchup for opposing players, especially those trying to accumulate fantasy points. The Pacers have won six of their last seven games but are 7.5-point road underdogs against the 76ers tonight. Haliburton is averaging a double-double for the first time in his career, but this is not the game environment he needs for a ceiling outcome.
