NBA DFS Picks: Monday, Jan. 30

Core Play of the Day — Domantas Sabonis: Sacramento Kings-Minnesota Timberwolves

Domantas Sabonis may not be as appealing today with his lofty salary and recent string of disappointing fantasy performances, but he makes for a decent play on this slate. Plenty of question marks sit at the top of the player pool. Luka Doncic is dealing with an ankle issue that he aggravated against the Suns on Thursday, limiting him to just over three minutes of action. Joel Embiid is also questionable with a foot injury, and tonight would be the perfect time to give him some rest as the 76ers will host Orlando.

Sabonis has three triple-doubles in his last seven games and has missed two others by a combined two rebounds and an assist. The minutes have been there, as have the opportunities — but so have 20 turnovers, and in two of these appearances, he failed to reach the charity stripe. Rudy Gobert has been playing through a sore foot and there is a chance he sits tonight as he continues to carry a questionable designation.

Enjoy the reasonable salary and power forward eligibility on FanDuel, and on DraftKings, this is the rare time we will see Sabonis with sub-5% popularity (if Embiid is out, expect Sabonis to be on around 15% of all tournament entries on DraftKings).

Shai-Gilgeous-Alexander: Oklahoma City Thunder-Golden State Warriors

Over the last 10 games, Golden State has been a mid-pack team from a defensive efficiency standpoint. They are also playing at the second-fastest pace in the association. The Warriors have allowed 119.5 points per game to their opponents through this stretch.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is having the best season of his career. He is averaging nearly 50 fantasy points per game, including a career-best 30.9 points per game, which ranks fifth in the association. Most impressive is his 51.3% success rate on 20.2 field goal attempts per game. In 90% of his games this season, the 24-year-old has tallied 40 or more fantasy points, which is an impressive fantasy baseline.

Luguentz Dort (hamstring) has joined Aleksej Pokuseski (leg) and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (ankle) on the sidelines, which means more minutes for Aaron Wiggins, Isaiah Joe and Kenrich Williams. While they are all viable salary-savers in tournaments, NBA DFS players who back them will be subject to the whims of coach Mark Daigneault, who loves to tinker with rotations and the minutes of his ancillary players.

Additional NBA DFS Building Blocks Pick – Sports Betting Opportunities

Jalen Williams looks like someone to consider tonight with a 3.5 total for his rebound prop. He is averaging 4.9 rebounds per 36 minutes thus far. He has gone over this number in 25 of his 45 appearances, good for a hit rate of 56%. He has averaged 33.4 minutes and 5.1 rebounds per game over his last seven appearances.

The NBA Bet Pro projections have Williams slated for 4.7 rebounds and 32.3 minutes of action. This wager has an expected win rate of 62%, which gives it a 3% expected ROI relative to the odds at BetMGM. Work this wager into a parlay for a higher payout potential.

Los Angeles Lakers-Brooklyn Nets

Tonight Anthony Davis and LeBron James have been ruled out in anticipation of tomorrow’s matchup against the Knicks in Madison Square Garden. Austin Reaves (hamstring) also remains out, though Lonnie Walker IV is expected to be available after returning on Saturday from a 14-game absence, albeit for just 18 minutes of action.

This means there should be plenty of fantasy opportunities for Russell Westbrook, who can dominate the ball to his heart’s content whenever he sees the floor. Thomas Bryant should approach 30 minutes if he can stay out of foul trouble and in the good graces of coach Darvin Ham.

Recently acquired forward Rui Hachimura and veteran guard Denis Schroeder should also receive additional fantasy opportunities. Patrick Beverley and Troy Brown are decent discount dandies, though they do not have reasonable access to the same fantasy upside as their aforementioned teammates.

Kyrie Irving has been in the zone over his last six games. He is averaging 39.3 minutes and 24.5 field goal attempts with a 51.7% conversion rate through that span. Even better, 9.8 of these have come from beyond the arc with an absurd 47.5% conversion rate. This has culminated in 36.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 3.0 combined blocks and steals. Anything less than 50 fantasy points from Irving tonight should be considered a disappointment.

In the last nine games, all without Kevin Durant, Nicolas Claxton has really turned some heads by averaging 34.3 minutes, 18.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.6 combined blocks and steals. He should easily outclass Bryant and Hachimura on the glass and be in the mix for 40 fantasy points.

Ben Simmons (knee) is questionable, but if he is in the starting lineup, tonight could be another opportunity to flirt with a triple-double — as long as he can get double-digit points. T.J. Warren is dealing with a bruised shin, and if he misses a second consecutive game, Royce O’Neale and Seth Curry will benefit from extra run.
