MLB DFS Picks: Spotlight Pitchers

Main Slate Primary Pitching Target: RHP Logan Webb (SF vs. MIA)

Giants vs. Marlins – 4.3 implied runs
First Pitch: 9:45 p.m. ET
$10,000 at DraftKings
$11,000 at FanDuel
$53 at Yahoo

The Stokastic MLB DFS Top Pitchers tool likes the variety of options across the various slates today. This should help disperse the popularity and give savvy gamers several different paths to potential DFS glory.

In San Francisco, RHP Logan Webb and the Giants are hosting Miami in the most pitching-friendly environment on the featured slate.

Shout out to the Marlins, who ended up winning last night, giving them three victories in the last four games. Tonight will be a much tougher row to hoe than it was last night against elder statesman and future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander. Miami is in the bottom quartile of the league against right-handed hurlers, posting a .138 ISO, 21.4% strikeout rate and a 90 wRC+.

Jesus Sanchez, Agustin Ramirez, Kyle Stowers and Liam Hicks have been productive this season against right-handed pitching, though Eric Wagaman has struggled, and former Baltimore prospect Connor Norby and catcher Liam Hicks have been detrimental.

Webb has been an elite ground ball artist with a 57.6% rate in his 956.2 career innings. This year he is down to 54.1%, which is his lowest since the 2020 pandemic-shortened season, though it is offset by a career-best 10.13 strikeouts per nine innings. It does seem that the 28-year-old has embraced making his own magic at the plate, jumping from a 20.4% strikeout rate last year to a 27.9% this season.

Other options for the featured slate include RHP Zack Wheeler in Houston against an Astros offense that has been middling against right-handed hurlers. Temperatures are going to be in the mid-60s for the Coors Field Extravaganza, which means RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto will see a more pitching-friendly environment against the worst offense in the league. In Minnesota, there is a chance for precipitation, though currently RHP Joe Ryan is projected to be the most popular pitcher on DraftKings (32.6%) and FanDuel (24.5%) against a surging Seattle offense.

Early Slate Primary Pitching Target: RHP Paul Skenes (PIT at MIL)

Pirates at Brewers – 3.6 implied runs
First Pitch: 2:10 p.m. ET
$11,000 at DraftKings
$10,800 at FanDuel
$60 at Yahoo

In Milwaukee, Pittsburgh ace RHP Paul Skenes is going against RHP Jacob Misiorowski, who is a top prospect for the Brewers. Each offense has a 3.6 implied run total, which is ahead of only the Washington Nationals in San Diego taking on RHP Nick Pivetta.

It seems like Skenes rarely makes a featured slate, with most of the weekday home games in Pittsburgh beginning in the 6 o’clock hour. Obviously, this is not a featured slate, though there are some decently sized contests for the four-game early action.

Skenes is the runaway favorite (-525) in the National League Cy Young Award race, ahead of Wheeler (+750), Webb (+1100) and Yamamoto (+2500), who are all toeing the rubber tonight.

His strikeout rate is down from last year (33.0% to 27.2%), though he has been consistently working deeper into games, closing out the sixth inning in 13 of his 16 appearances while leading the league with a 1.85 ERA, 229 ERA+ and a 0.882 WHIP while allowing a scant 0.4 home runs per nine innings.

Misiorowski has impressed in his two starts, allowing just two runs in 11 innings against the St. Louis Cardinals and in Minnesota against the Twins. He has 11 strikeouts in this span and actually did not allow his first runs until the top of the seventh in his second start, having logged 11 scoreless frames before giving up a two-run homer to Matt Wallner with no outs in the seventh.

On DraftKings, Misiorowski is $1,500 cheaper than Skenes, though he is carrying a 10% to 15% premium when compared to the other pitching options, which is keeping his popularity in check at 27%. He is even more intriguing on FanDuel, where he is expected to be on around 7.5% of all tournament rosters, with just over half the entries projected to roster Skenes.

MLB DFS Picks: Top Stacks

Main Slate Contrarian Target: Philadelphia Phillies

Phillies at Astros – 4.2 implied runs
First Pitch: 8:10 p.m. ET
Opposing Starter: LHP Colton Gordon
DK Top Stack %: 4.2%
FD Top Stack %: 3.8%

The Stokastic MLB DFS Top Stacks Tool has the Los Angeles Dodgers as the best stack tonight in Coors Field against RHP Chase Dollander, while the New York Yankees in Great American Ballpark against RHP Brady Singer rate out as the second-best offense. These teams have a combined 42.3% probability of being a top-2 scoring stack on DraftKings and a 41.2% likelihood of being the top stack on FanDuel.

The Chicago Cubs also profile well in St. Louis against RHP Erick Fedde, and further West on I-70, the Tampa Bay Rays look good in Kansas City taking on RHP Michael Wacha. That leaves Philadelphia being underrepresented in tournaments, and while Houston’s Daikin Park is not as friendly to offenses as Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies should not be overlooked tonight.

Rookie LHP Colton Gordon will be on the mound for his eighth career start, and he suffered two home runs in three of his last four games. To his credit, he has been outperforming his projected walk and strikeout rates. The 26-year-old is a low-end prospect, barely cracking the top 25 in the Houston organization. If not for injuries to Cristian Javier, Luis Garcia, Spencer Arrighetti, Ronel Blanco, Hayden Wesneski and now Lance McCullers Jr., he would still be in the minors.

Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner and Nick Castellanos are the trio to target from the Phillies, with Edmundo Sosa a potential discount dandy in stacks or as a one-off.

Stokastic’s MLB DFS Single Lineup Simulator is a game-changing tool that transforms lineup construction through powerful, data-driven simulations — essential for serious DFS players. See how the Simulator analyzes this single lineup for today’s MLB DFS slate:

Early Slate Primary Target: Arizona Diamondbacks

Diamondbacks at White Sox – 5.1 implied runs
First Pitch: 2:10 p.m. ET
Opposing Starter: RHP Sean Burke
DK Top Stack %: 20.8%
FD Top Stack %: 19.5%

Once again it is going to be warm in Chicago with game-time temperatures in the mid-80s and an elevated humidity in the 70% range, though it doesn’t look like there will be any significant precipitation risk or coverage for potential scattered showers.

Rookie RHP Sean Burke will be making his 20th appearance in The Show this afternoon, and he has not been a particularly imposing presence on the mound. Walks have been an issue with a 10.2% rate across his 410 batters faced, plus a below-average 20.2% strikeout rate, his lack of ground balls (33.7%) and propensity for fly balls (31.2%) leave him vulnerable to disciplined offenses.

Corbin Carroll is out with a fractured left wrist, Eugenio Suarez is probably out until this weekend at the earliest after suffering a hand issue, and Ildemaro Vargas was lost to a foot injury last night. These injuries mean that Geraldo Perdomo is likely to be in the leadoff slot, while Pavin Smith moves into the top half of the lineup. Ketel Marte, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Josh Naylor remain the stalwarts in the order, giving gamers many ways to craft Arizona stacks that are different from The Masses taking this same path.

Jake McCarthy has not been able to keep a regular role, bouncing between The Show and the minors, despite being an excellent baserunner. He is very cheap on DraftKings ($3,000) and at a rock-bottom $2,300 on FanDuel, making him the punt du jour this afternoon.

Today’s Top Sports Betting Picks

If you’re serious about making sharp MLB DFS picks, you already know that long-term success starts with using the right tools. The same approach applies to sports betting — and that’s where Portfolio EV shines.

Take a bet like Miguel Vargas under 0.5 total hits. On the surface, it’s a simple play. But behind the scenes, it’s a +EV bet — meaning it’s mathematically profitable based on the best odds available. And with Portfolio EV, you’re not relying on one-off picks. You’re stacking dozens — even hundreds — of +EV wagers at scale using the Mass Entry tool, turning small edges into long-term profit.

Just like one DFS lineup won’t win you a GPP, one smart bet doesn’t build a bankroll. But a consistent process does. This isn’t about chasing hot streaks. It’s about making smart, data-backed decisions every day and letting the math do the heavy lifting.

Vargas came over from the Dodgers in part of a three-team trade that saw the White Sox sending reliever Michael Kopech to Los Angeles. The 25-year-old was a top-5 prospect in the Dodgers system while ranking just outside the top 50 on most industry lists. He has flashed power at times, though he lacks consistency. In 75 starts, Vargas recorded a hit in 45 (60%) games, which is why getting the +160 odds — which are well above the “true odds” of +137 — are so appealing.
