NBA DFS Value and Advice | March 9

Utah Jazz vs. Orlando Magic

Utah will be without two key players, Walker Kessler and Jordan Clarkson, who are questionable for the game. If they sit, look to Lauri Markkanen as the most appealing option. Kelly Olynyk could also see a boost in production. Talen Horton-Tucker and Kris Dunn will become better options if Clarkson sits.

On the other side, Wendell Carter Jr. is out for the Magic, which means Moritz Wagner should see some more playing time. He has played 33 and 21 minutes in his two starts and could be a risky upside play at his new price tag. With Gary Harris back in the lineup, Jalen Suggs and Cole Anthony become riskier options than they were when he was out. However, Anthony still looks decent at $5,300. Markelle Fultz, Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner all have increased upside without Carter, but they are priced appropriately.

Charlotte Hornets vs. Detroit Pistons

There is a lot to like from the Hornets with LaMelo Ball out of the lineup. Kelly Oubre, P.J. Washington, Gordon Hayward and Terry Rozier are all playing big minutes and see increased opportunities. Mark Williams should play 28 to 30 minutes barring foul trouble.

Killian Hayes and Jalen Duren are expected to return for the Pistons. Alec Burks, Hamidou Diallo and Bojan Bogdanovic remain out. Hayes is a strong value assuming he returns to the starting lineup. Jaden Ivey has a high ceiling but is a riskier play now that he is more expensive, and Hayes’ return is likely to cut into his assist opportunities.

The frontcourt could offer some value, but it remains to be seen who will start at center between Duren and James Wiseman. Marvin Bagley has a high ceiling, but he is priced up and could see a couple fewer minutes with Duren added to the rotation.

Houston Rockets vs. Indiana Pacers

This is an extremely favorable DFS matchup. With no Kevin Porter Jr., Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun should see increased usage. Porter’s absence is also likely to open up playing time for Jae’Sean Tate and possibly Daishen Nix and Josh Christopher.

Tari Eason has averaged five more minutes per game in the games that he has played alongside Jabari Smith and Sengun without Eric Gordon compared to when all three players were active. Tyrese Haliburton is expensive, but there aren’t many strong pay-up options on tonight’s slate, so he still looks good. Myles Turner, Buddy Hield and Bennedict Mathurin are all viable contrarian options in a great matchup.

Golden State Warriors vs. Memphis Grizzlies

Stephen Curry looks good as a low-owned tournament play thanks to a lack of other strong pay-up options. Draymond Green and Donte DiVincenzo are both useful lineup fillers at relatively weak positions and reasonable prices.

Memphis is getting expensive, but there is still a lot of upside thanks to the absences of Ja Morant, Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke. Tyus Jones is still reasonably priced, and Desmond Bane is in a nice bounce-back spot after a horrible game against the Lakers. Dillon Brooks led the team in field goal attempts last game but still only managed 17 fantasy points because he can’t shoot and contributed no peripherals. He has a high ceiling for his price but a very low floor. Xavier Tillman has played 33 and 32 minutes without Clarke and now has power forward eligibility in addition to center. Jaren Jackson Jr. has averaged about 1.3 DraftKings points per minute without Morant this season and should play around 30 minutes.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Milwaukee Bucks

The Brooklyn Nets are extremely shorthanded in their matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks, which means there is a lot of blowout risk but also cheap price tags. The rotation will be easier to project once there is a starting lineup, but Cam Thomas, Day’Ron Sharpe and Edmond Sumner are expected to be three of the best value plays tonight. Seth Curry, Joe Harris and Nerlens Noel also project as secondary values. Mikal Bridges has a massive ceiling that can help offset his expensive price tag and the blowout risk. For Milwaukee, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jrue Holiday are expected to return, with Antetokounmpo being the best play, followed by Middleton (if he is starting) and Holiday. Nothing else from Milwaukee seems appealing.

UPDATE: Antetokounmpo has been ruled out, Holiday and Jae Crowder listed as available. Target the Milwaukee starters once officially announced.

New York Knicks vs. Sacramento Kings

Jalen Brunson is questionable again. If he plays, he is a secondary option, along with Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson. However, nothing else will look good. If Brunson is out, Immanuel Quickley becomes a strong play again and Randle looks better. R.J. Barrett and Josh Hart both become playable as well. For the Kings, Domantas Sabonis is the top option, with De’Aaron Fox, Harrison Barnes and Keegan Murray being a tier below him.
