NFL DFS Tools & Winning Lineup: How to Win Showdowns With Sims
Now, the good news is we had at least three Stokastic avatars among the winners for the $1.1 Million Sunday Night Football Showdown: Ma37xx, WolfofMainStreet and cjn0689. The bad news is that 29 others had the exact same lineup, and another four finished with the same score but a different lineup.
For the sake of simplicity, we’ll take a look at WolfofMainStreet’s entry in the Post-Contest Simulator to evaluate this contest.
Thirty-two players had this exact lineup, and the only difference between this and the other four lineups that scored the same was the Britain Covey slot. Covey scored 0 points, so the other lineups also had a goose egg. Other than that, the players were the same across the 36 winners.
Given his historically great game, Saquon Barkley obviously had to be Captain in order to have a chance in this Showdown. Barkley was the most heavily rostered Captain on the slate, but it wasn’t by a ton — 15.4%, while A.J. Brown, Jalen Hurts and Puka Nacua were all at least 13%. Barkley was the only one of those who returned positively on investment as a Captain. In fact, the only other positive Captain was Hunter Long.
As for Flex, it was a relatively predictable crew of studs: Brown, Nacua, Matthew Stafford and Jake Elliott, with Covey in 32 winning lineups, C.J. Uzomah in four and Parris Campbell in one. The one major name they avoided, however, was Jalen Hurts, a move that created automatic differentiation since 55.7% of the field rostered him. But then the second- and third-highest-owned Flexes were Nacua and Brown, while Stafford came in sixth.
Then again, these lineups also didn’t have 38.7%-rostered Cooper Kupp, another move that created a little bit more differentiation. When it came down to it, though, the only real decision point in terms of Flex ownership that set these lineups apart was the Hurts omission since the ultra-contrarian players scored 0 points.
Overall, this 32-times-duped lineup simulated pre-contest for 28.2% ROI, and it returned 90,748.8%. Sure, the duplications cut the winning chop to $13,627.32 apiece, but a win’s a win and our users were a major part of that!
