NFL DFS: Preseason Week 1 Value Plays, Sleepers & Picks for Ravens vs. Titans & Patriots vs. Giants (August 11)

The preseason has finally arrived, and Week 1 kicks off with a two-game slate Thursday night. Preseason DFS creates an unique environment where information reigns supreme. Finding which players will play the most can significantly increase the likelihood of NFL preseason DFS success. This piece will dig into the roster of each team and pinpoint exactly where that value might come from.

NFL Preseason Week 1 DFS Picks

New York Giants

Note – Brian Daboll said all starters are expected to play. New York scrimmaged last weekend and their beat reporters kept track of snaps with the starting unit.

QB1 – Daniel Jones – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – 39 snaps last preseason – Jones threw for 135 yards on 22 attempts. He also threw one touchdown and one interception. Starters will play in preseason Week 1, but that shouldn’t be more than a series or two.

QB2 – Tyrod Taylor – 10 snaps – 13 snaps – 27 snaps – Taylor threw 18 times for 81 yards with the Texans last year.

QB3 – Davis Webb – 34 snaps – 16 snaps – 8 snaps – Webb completed 64.3% of his passes for 143 yards and one touchdown. Webb should play most of this game and makes the best DFS play of the group.

RB1 – Saquon Barkley – Barkley did not play in the preseason last year. Barkley received 24 of 31 snaps with the first team in New York’s scrimmage last week.

RB2 – Matt Breida – 21 snaps – 26 snaps – 7 snaps – Breida rushed 16 times for 61 yards last year and caught 5 of 6 targets for 43 yards. Breida received 5 of 31 snaps with the first team. Breida was added to the injury goup on Aug. 9 and looks unlikely to play here.

RB3 – Antonio Williams– 29 snaps – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – Williams rushed seven times for 15 yards in one preseason game with Buffalo last year. Williams has gotten 3rd string reps over Brightwell, but this is still a roster battle.

RB4 – Gary Brightwell – 0 snaps – 23 snaps – 17 snaps – Brightwell rushed seven times for 17 yards. He also caught 6 of 7 targets for 32 yards.

RB5 – Jashaun Corbin – Corbin is an undrafted free agent out of Florida State. Corbin rushed for 887 yards and caught 25 passes last year. Corbin has been running with the 3rd string.

RB6 – Sandro Platzgummer – 11 snaps – 0 snaps – 10 snaps – Platzgummer rushed 5 times for 53 yards last preseason. He has been getting kick return work and could be a candidate for special teams.

WR1 – Kadarius Toney – Toney did not play last preseason. Toney played on 23 of 31 first team snaps in the Giants’ scrimmage. He has received maintenance days all training camp and won’t play much if at all. He did not practice Aug. 9 and might not suit up based on injuries.

WR2 – Kenny Golladay – Golladay did not play last preseason. Golladay received 27 of 31 snaps with the first team.

WR3 – Wan’Dale Robinson – Robinson was the 43rd pick in the second round out of Kentucky/Nebraska. Robinson received 22 of 31 snaps with the first team.

WR4 – Sterling Shepard – Shepard is rehabbing a torn Achilles.

WR5 – Richie James – 22 snaps – 22 snaps – 0 snaps – James caught 2 of 5 targets for 16 yards with the 49ers last preseason. James received 3 of 31 snaps with the first team

WR6 – Collin Johnson – 32 snaps – 23 snaps – 19 snaps – Johnson caught 2 of 5 targets for 23 yards and one touchdown with Jacksonville last year. Johnson received 5 of 31 snaps with the first team.

WR7 – C.J. Board – 17 snaps – 16 snaps – 22 snaps – Board caught 2 of 3 targets for 20 yards. Board received 1 of 31 snaps with the first team. Board has been banged up over the last few days, but he returned to practice Aug. 9.

WR8 – Darius Slayton – 13 snaps – 0 snaps – 31 snaps – Slayton was not one of the six receivers to play with the first team in the scrimmage. He has consistently been working with the third team.

WR9 – David Sills – 32 snaps – 40 snaps – 24 snaps – Sills caught 7 of 15 targets for 94 yards and one touchdown. Sills practiced on the side on Aug. 7, which is generally the injury group.

WR10 – Robert Foster – 29 snaps – 32 snaps – 0 snaps – Foster caught 2 of 4 targets for 16 yards and one touchdown with Miami last preseason. Foster returned to practice Aug. 7, but he continues to wear a non-contact jersey. Foster has been working with Webb.

WR11 – Keelan Doss – 44 snaps – 23 snaps – 33 snaps – Doss caught 8 of 11 targets for 83 yards. Doss has been playing with Webb.

WR12 – Alex Bachman – 23 snaps – 23 snaps – 22 snaps – Bachman caught 3 of 9 targets for 39 yards and one touchdown. Bachman has played mostly with Webb.

WR 13 – Austin Proehl – 10 snaps – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – Proehl has been working with Webb. He left practice early with trainers on Aug. 9 after pulling up on a route and looks unlikely to play.

WR14 – Marcus Kemp – 22 snaps – 25 snaps – 25 snaps – Kemp caught 6 of 7 targets for 87 yards and one touchdown.

TE1- Daniel Bellinger – Bellinger was the 112th pick in the fourth round out of San Diego State. Bellinger received 21 of 31 snaps with the first team

TE2 – Ricky Seals-Jones – 18 snaps – 35 snaps – 11 snaps – Seals-Jones caught 4 of 6 targets for 32 yards with Washington last year. He has missed eight straight practices.

TE3 – Chris Myarick – 22 snaps – 27 snaps – 43 snaps – Myarick caught all three of his targets for 54 yards and one touchdown. Myarick received 12 of 31 snaps with the first team

TE4 – Jordan Akins – 0 snaps – 4 snaps – 23 snaps – Akins played with Houston last year. He has been quiet during training camp. Akins was still listed second on the depth chart, even though the scrimmage snaps did not reflect that.

TE5 – Austin Allen – Allen is an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska. Allen received 1 of 31 snaps with the first team.

TE7 – Jeremiah Hall – Hall is an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma. He is 6-foot-2, 239 pounds and functions like a hybrid H-Back/tight end. Hall has begun earning first-team reps at practice. Hall’s main competition, Andre Miller, suffered an injury, allowing Hall to potentially see the field more.

New England Patriots

QB1 – Mac Jones – 33 snaps – 42 snaps – 32 snaps – Jones completed 69.2% of his passes for 389 yards and one touchdown. Jones isn’t expected to play.

QB2 – Brian Hoyer – 14 snaps – 20 snaps – 18 snaps – Hoyer completed 76.5% of his snaps for 117 scoreless yards. Hoyer missed time early in camp, but he has returned to practice.

QB3 – Bailey Zappe – Zappe was the 137th pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft out of Western Kentucky. He isn’t mobile whatsoever. Zappe has been playing well and could earn the backup job. He should get extended run this preseason.

RB1 – Damien Harris – Harris isn’t expected to play.

RB2 – Rhamondre Stevenson – Stevenson isn’t expected to play.

RB3- Pierre Strong – Strong was drafted 127th overall in the fourth round out of South Dakota State. He rushed 240 times for 1,686 yards, while catching 22 passes. Strong has been injured in camp, but he recently returned. Belichick said he’s behind. He has been playing with Zappe and could get extended run.

RB4 – Ty Montgomery – 28 snaps – 39 snaps – 0 snaps – He caught five passes for 80 yards with New Orleans last preseason. Montgomery is playing well and making a good case for a roster spot.

RB5 – J.J. Taylor – 16 snaps – 26 snaps – 36 snaps – Taylor rushed 23 times for 179 yards and a touchdown. He also caught all 10 of his targets for 62 yards last preseason.

RB6 – Kevin Harris – Harris was drafted 183rd overall in the sixth round out of South Carolina. Harris rushed 185 times for 1,138 yards in 2020. He also caught 21 passes and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.62 seconds.

WR1 – Jakobi Meyers – Meyers isn’t expected to play.

WR2 – DeVante Parker – Parker isn’t expected to play.

WR3 – Kendrick Bourne – Bourne isn’t expected to play.

WR4 – Nelson Agholor – 0 snaps – 14 snaps – 9 snaps – Agholor has been listed as the odd man out in New England. Some believe he could be cut or traded.

WR5 – Tyquan Thornton – Thornton was drafted 50th overall in the second round. He ran a 4.21 40-yard dash but produced below average collegiate production. He caught 62 passes for 948 yards as a 4th year player. Thornton has gotten some reps with the first team and played well.

WR6 – Tre Nixon – 5 snaps – 0 snaps – 18 snaps

WR7 – Kristian Wilkerson – 32 snaps – 39 snaps – 48 snaps – Wilkerson caught 13 of 15 targets for 147 scoreless yards.

WR8 – Lil’Jordan Humphrey – 34 snaps – 33 snaps – 0 snaps – Humphrey caught 7 of 10 targets for 103 yards and two touchdowns with New Orleans last year. He is 6-foot-4, 225 pounds and a solid red zone threat.

WR9 – Josh Hammond – 21 snaps – 21 snaps – 39 snaps – Hammond caught 12 of 16 targets for 124 yards with Jacksonville last preseason

WR10 – Matthew Slater – Slater only plays special teams.

TE1- Hunter Henry – Henry isn’t expected to play.

TE2 – Jonnu Smith – Smith isn’t expected to play.

TE3 – Devin Asiasi – 12 snaps – 52 snaps – 49 snaps – Asiasi caught 4 of 5 targets for 64 yards. Asiasi isn’t standing out in camp Asiasi left practice on Aug. 8, but he returned to a limited practice on Aug. 9.

TE4 – Dalton Keene – Keene didn’t play last preseason, but he is a former third-round pick from 2020. He is more of an H-Back type and never caught more than 28 passes in a single season in college. Keene isn’t standing out in camp. Like Asiasi, he was limited on Aug. 9.

TE5 – Matt Sokol – 17 snaps – 23 snaps – 16 snaps – He is more of a blocker but caught all 3 targets for 30 yards last preseason. There’s a scenario where Sokol is the only active tight end for New England tonight.

K1 – Nick Folk

Tennessee Titans

QB1 – Ryan Tannehill – Tannehill did not play last preseason

QB2 – Malik Willis – Willis was the 86th overall pick of the third round out of Liberty. Willis rushed for 944 yards and 878 yards in back-to-back seasons. He should get extended look this preseason.

QB3 – Logan Woodside – 38 snaps – 32 snaps – 35 snaps – Woodside completed 72.5% of his passes for 248, three touchdowns and one interception.

RB1 – Derrick Henry – Henry won’t play in the preseason.

RB2 – Dontrell Hilliard – Hilliard did not play last preseason. Hilliard was in a non-contact jersey Aug. 8.

RB3 – Hassan Haskins – Haskins was the 131st pick in the fourth round out of Michigan. Haskins is 6-foot-2, 228 pounds and ran a 4.74 40-yard dash.

RB4 – Trenton Cannon – 1 snap – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – Cannon played mostly special teams with Carolina last year.

RB5 – Jordan Wilkins – 26 snaps – 16 snaps – 14 snaps – Wilkins carried 16 times for 46 yards and one touchdown with Indianapolis last year.

RB6 – Julius Chestnut – Chestnut is an undrafted free agent out of Sacred Heart. He is 6-foot-1, 215 pounds and ran a 4.5 40-yard dash at his pro day.

RB7 – Troy Carter – Carter is a fullback.

WR1 – Treylon Burks – Burks was the 18th pick in the first round out of Arkansas. Burks is 6-foot-2, 225 pounds and ran a 4.55 40-yard dash.

WR2 – Robert Woods – Woods is coming off a torn ACL, but he has been doing almost everything in practice. He hopes to be ready by Week 1.

WR3 – Nick Westbrook-Ikhine – 10 snaps – 12 snaps – 11 snaps. Westbrook-Ikhine has been working firmly with the Tannehill group.

WR4 – Racey McMath – 38 snaps – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – McMath went catchless last preseason, but he is 6-foot-3, 224 pounds and ran a 4.39 40-yard dash.

WR5 -Kyle Philips – Philips was the 163rd pick in the 5th round out of UCLA. He has been working with the Tannehill group in some spots.

WR6 – Dez Fitzpatrick – 24 snaps – 28 snaps – 63 snaps – Fitzpatrick caught 3 of 4 targets for 58 yards and one touchdown. Fitzpatrick has worked with the Willis group.

WR7 – Cody Hollister – Hollister didn’t play last preseason, but he has been with Tennessee since 2019. Hollister missed practice Aug. 8.

WR8 – Josh Malone – 15 snaps – 3 snaps – 0 snaps – Malone caught 1 of 3 targets for yards with the Jets last year.

WR9 – Terry Godwin – Godwin didn’t play last preseason. He has been working with Willis/Woodside.

WR10 – Reggie Roberson – Roberson is an undrafted free agent out of SMU. He suffered two season-ending injuries that derailed his college career.

TE2 – Geoff Swaim– Swaim didn’t play last preseason. He plays a ton in the regular season and looks unlikely to play much in the preseason.

TE3 – Tommy Hudson – 29 snaps – 27 snaps – 20 snaps – He caught 1 of 3 targets for 5 yards. Hudson came off PUP on Aug. 1. There’s still a good chance he doesn’t play in preseason Week 1.

TE4 – Chig Okonkwo – Okonkwo was the 143rd pick in the fourth round out of Maryland. He caught 52 passes for 447 yards last year. He ran a 4.52 40-yard dash. Okonkwo has been working with Willis.

TE5 – Briley Moore – Moore didn’t play last preseason, but he is a 2021 undrafted free agent out of Kansas State. He has been working with Woodside.

TE6 – Thomas Odukoya – Odukoya is an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Michigan. He is 6-foot-6, 263 pounds and functioned as a part time blocker. He never caught more than 13 passes any season.

K1 – Randy Bullock

K2 – Caleb Shudak – Shudak is on PUP.

Baltimore Ravens

QB1 – Lamar Jackson – Jackson is out for the preseason Week 1.

QB2 – Tyler Huntley – 39 snaps – 73 snaps – 72 snaps – He completed 72.3% of his passes for 551 yards, four touchdowns, one interception in 2021. Huntley is now the primary backup after playing behind Trace McSorley last year.

QB3 – Brett Hundley – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – 39 snaps – He completed 50% of his passes for 52 yards, one touchdown and one interception last year with Indianapolis. He rushed two times for 30 yards last year. Hundley has solid mobility overall.

QB4 – Anthony Brown – Brown is an undrafted free agent out of Oregon. He completed 64.1% of his passes for 2,989 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Also rushed 151 times for 658 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in 2021.

RB1 – J.K. Dobbins – Dobbins tore his ACL last year. He returned to practice on Aug. 8.

RB2 – Gus Edwards – Edwards tore his ACL last year.

RB3 – Mike Davis – Davis is a veteran and a free agent signing. He has been working with the Jackson group.

RB4 – Justice Hill – 21 snaps – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – Hill rushed five times for 8 yards in 2021. He also rushed 27 times for 90 yards and a touchdown in 2019, while catching four passes for 24 yards. He has worked with the Jackson group.

RB5 – Tyler Badie – Badie was the 197th pick in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Missouri. He is 5-foot-8, 197 pounds and profiles as a pass-catching back. Badie rushed 268 times for 1,604 yards and caught 54 passes for 330 yards in 2021. He has worked with the Jackson group in camp.

RB6 – Corey Clement – 11 snaps – 21 snaps – 15 snaps – Clement played with the Giants last preseason and rushed 18 times for 86 yards with a fumble. He signed with Baltimore on July 29 – Little mention of Clement in camp.

RB7 – Nate McCray – 8 snaps – 17 snaps – 26 snaps – McCray rushed 42 times for 163 yards and a touchdown with Baltimore last year. He came out of Saginaw Valley State in 2021.

RB8 – Patrick Ricard – Full Back

WR1 – Rashod Bateman – Bateman returned to practice Aug. 8.

WR2 – James Proche – 37 snaps – 29 snaps – 30 snaps – He caught 7 of 8 targets for 66 yards and one touchdown. Playing with Lamar Jackson group. Proche missed practice Aug. 9.

WR3 – Devin Duvernay39 snaps – 28 snaps – 30 snaps – He caught 9 of 14 targets for 80 yards. Battling a thigh injury Aug. 5, but he returned to practice Aug. 8.

WR4 – Tylan Wallace – 45 snaps – 38 snaps – 57 snaps – He caught 5 of 9 targets for 63 yards and a touchdown. Playing with the Lamar Jackson group.

WR5 – Jaylon Moore – 32 snaps – 30 snaps – 23 snaps – He caught 5 of 7 targets for 47 yards. Playing with the Lamar Jackson/Tyler Huntley group. Moore has received praise in camp.

WR6 – Shemar Bridges – Bridges is an undrafted free agent out of Fort Valley State. He caught 28 passes for 292 yards in four games last year. Beat reporter Jeff Zrebiec noted that Bridges has been awesome in camp and will be battling Jaylon Moore for the WR5 role.

WR7 – Binjimen Victor – 13 snaps – 19 snaps – 17 snaps – He caught 8 of 9 targets for 116 yards and one touchdown. Playing with the Lamar Jackson/Tyler Huntley group.

WR8 – Slade Bolden – Bolden is an undrafted free agent out of Alabama. He is caught 42 passes for 408 yards in his final season. Playing with the Tyler Huntley group but getting a little time with Jackson. Bolden left practice early on Aug. 9.

WR9 – Devon Williams – Williams is an undrafted free agent out of Oregon. He is caught 35 passes for 557 yards in his final season. He missed practice Aug. 8

WR10 – Makai Polk – Polk is an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State. He is caught 105 passes for 1,046 yards last year.

WR11 – Bailey Gaither – Gaither was a 2021 undrafted free agent out of San Jose State. He played with the Packers last year, before playing with the Pittsburgh Maulers in the USFL. He didn’t receive any preseason snaps. Gaither missed practice on Aug. 9.

WR12 – Raleigh Webb – Webb is an undrafted free agent out of Citadel. He is caught 25 passes for 536 yards in 11 games last year.

TE1- Mark Andrews – Andrews is out for the preseason Week 1.

TE2 – Nick Boyle – Boyle is practicing limited days. He said he wants to play in the preseason, but we will see if Harbaugh allows that.

TE3 – Josh Oliver – 51 snaps – 47 snaps – 52 snaps – Oliver caught 13 of 20 targets for 91 yards last preseason. Playing with the Lamar Jackson/Tyler Huntley group.

TE4 – Charlie Kolar – not practicing (sports hernia)

TE5 – Isaiah Likely – Likely was the 139th pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. He is caught 59 passes for 912 yards with Coastal Carolina last year.

TE6 – Tony Poljan – 6 snaps – 12 snaps – 14 snaps – Poljan didn’t record any receiving stats last preseason. Poljan has received praise in camp.
