Mike Minor has struggled in his first season with the Reds, just like every other pitcher in their rotation. Minor has a 1-6 record in seven starts, along with a career-worst 6.63 ERA. Even in the strikeout department, Minor is tied with his career-worst rate of 18.8%. A major positive for Minor is he is coming off a season-high eight-strikeout performance in a game where he gave up four earned runs in a loss. That type of upside is what is necessary in this matchup against the Yankees, who have the best offense in the league. The Bronx Bombers lead the league in home runs, wOBA, ISO and many other offensive statistics, while ranking 18th in strikeout rate. It is a tough spot for Minor, but the upside is there.

Jon Gray Under 6.5 Strikeouts (+110)

In his first season with the Rangers, Jon Gray has a career-high 26.5% strikeout rate and a 5-4 record in 15 starts. Despite the high strikeout rate, Gray has allowed a 4.03 ERA and four home runs in his last two games. Pitching away from Coors Field hasn’t helped Gray that much, other than his strikeout rate. Regardless, seven strikeouts is a lot to get in one outing, even with the Athletics being a very easy matchup. They rank in the top 10 in strikeout rate as a team and second-to-last in runs scored. Gray should have no trouble cruising through this lineup, but banking on six or fewer strikeouts is the way to go on this prop. Stokastic’s MLB model has Gray projected for 6.3 strikeouts, which is just below this line.

Tony Gonsolin Under 4.5 Strikeouts (+105)

Another under strikeout prop is Tony Gonsolin under 4.5 strikeouts in his matchup against the Cardinals. It is tough to take any Gonsolin under when looking at his stats. He is 11-0 this season in 16 starts with an incredible 1.62 ERA. The Dodgers are only a -155 favorite tonight, which isn’t as high as it could be given Gonsolin’s perfect record. This matchup against the Cardinals is pretty tough to get strikeouts, as they have a 20.5% rate, which is tied for the sixth best in the league. Stokastic’s MLB model has the xWin at 47%, and Gonsolin is projected for 4.9 strikeouts. However, he has gone under on this prop in two of his last four starts. This is a risky one, but worth the gamble.
