Underdog Fantasy App Review: Is the UI Good?

There is definitely some subjectivity to evaluating any app. Features some may feel they need could be irrelevant to others, and minor nitpicks for one may be deal breakers for someone else. That said, there are some things everyone can agree to be necessary for any fantasy app, so here we will evaluate the pros and cons of the Underdog Fantasy app user interface and see how it performs in basic areas.

React App

Pros of the Underdog Fantasy User Interface

Despite the multitude of choices available on Underdog, using the app is remarkably straightforward. The Drafts lobby is clearly labeled, making it easy to locate different sports options. Customizing the slate for your drafts is a simple process with a dropdown menu, and once you’ve joined drafts, reviewing your teams is effortless thanks to the tabs at the top of the screen.

It’s also quite easy to move between the various pick’em contests (Higher/Lower and Rivals) as well as the different sports, as they are prominently displayed at the top of the home screen. You can also search players, teams and even stat projections via the search bar below the sports tabs.

When making picks for pick’em contests, the bottom of the screen shows what you stand to earn if you hit all your picks, and clicking this takes you to the page where you can input your dollar amount you want to risk for your entry and whether you want the picks to be Insured or Standard. This page has descriptions and payout structures for each type of entry if you are having trouble deciding which option you want.

Overall, the app is well laid out and easy to understand, so the user experience on the whole is a plus for the Underdog app.

Cons of the Underdog Fantasy User Interface

The layout choice of the Underdog app is going to be polarizing. The player squares are big and include all of the available player stat projections — which is definitely a welcome idea — but it also means that you will need to scroll like crazy if you are browsing through players.

As an example, here is the entirety of the visible screen when scrolling through the Pick’em NBA page:

You can see exactly one player at a time on the app. Sure, Evan Mobley is creeping his face in there, but practically speaking, that is a Donovan Mitchell-dominated screen. Maybe that’s OK with you since you can see everything Underdog has to offer for that individual player. But if you are hoping to casually browse your options, this is not the most convenient format.

If we’re being honest, though, this is the only real downside to the Underdog app — and it’s a pretty subjective one.

Underdog Fantasy App User Interface: The Verdict

When it comes down to it, the Underdog app is very user friendly and packs a lot of features into a few pages without seeming cluttered. When evaluating an app’s user interface, all we need from it is ease of access for its features, everything laid out and labeled clearly, and quick responsiveness. In this regard, Underdog’s app experience is overwhelmingly positive, with the only downside being the scrolling necessary to browse. Other than that, this app is perfectly designed for Underdog’s users.
