Early Slate

Oakland Athletics at RHP Glenn Sparkman – 5.9 implied runs

It looks like it will be RHP Glenn Sparkman taking the mound for the Royals in Thursday’s matinee matchup.  On a positive note, Sparkman throws close to 100 pitches per outing… averaging 95.6 over his last nine starts but lasting just 5.2 innings per game.

Look to the lefties from Oakland as Sparkman has allowed a .374 wOBA, .244 ISO with a paltry 14.2 K% and a hefty 10.4 BB% over his last 337 opposite-handed matchups.  Matt Olson, Jurickson Profar and youngster Seth Brown would be the trio to target on the early slate.

Main Slate

Cincinnati Reds at RHP Robert Dugger – 4.9 implied runs

With RHP Jordan Yamamoto on the injured list, it should be RHP Robert Dugger getting the call from AAA-New Orleans.  Dugger was drafted out of Texas Tech by the Mariners in 2016 and was part of the Dee Gordon trade a couple years later landing with the Marlins.  He has been semi-splits neutral, but strikes out same-handed hitters at a much higher rate than lefties.

While this is not the friendliest hitting venue with Marlins Park typically having the roof closed, the Reds are reasonably priced for this matchup other than the scorching Aristides AquinoMy preferred order of options would be Eugenio Suarez, Josh VanMeter, Freddy Galvis, Nick Senzel, Aristides Aquino and Joey Votto if pricing is a consideration.  It is hard to believe many gamers will be looking in this direction even on a six game slate.

Evening Slate

Texas Rangers vs RHP Felix Hernandez – 6.0 implied runs

The Pirates and Rockies should be targeted with impunity – but you do not need me to say that.  As an alternative, we can look at the Rangers who will be hosting RHP Felix Hernandez.

Last Saturday King Felix survived against Toronto in an emotionally charged return from the injured list.  He allowed just three hits, but two were home runs and the three walks were concerning.  As a reminder his fastball hovers around 90 mph and too many of them are up in the zone.

Over his last 361 righty/lefty matchups Hernandez has allowed a .362 wOBA, .262 ISO with a 9.1 BB%.  Start the party with switch-hitting Danny Santana, Willie Calhoun who has sneaky power and Shin-Soo ChooRougned Odor is also worthy of consideration on the short game set along with any of the right-handed hitters if you are looking for a full-stack on either slate.

Late Slate

Los Angeles Dodgers at RHP Merrill Kelly – 5.4 implied runs

The roof is slated to be closed for this homestand at Chase Field. Do not be afraid to target against RHP Merrill Kelly who has allowed 10 home runs over his last six starts.  The 30-year old rookie has been mashed over his last ten games lasting just 52.1 innings.  By comparison over this stretch he has allowed the same amount of runs and home runs as he did in his first 16 starts spanning 94.0 innings.  In other words, the wheels have come off the wagon.

Same-handed hitters have done the most damage with a 1.9 HR/9 and a .220 ISO so target Will Smith, Justin Turner and Chris TaylorFrom the left-side of the plate of course the Dodgers are phenomenal with Max Muncy, Cody Bellinger and Joc Pederson (who was a late scratch last night).  All of the aforementioned batsmen boast above average power.
