NBA DFS Picks: Prime Time Players
Hassan Whiteside: Portland Trailblazers vs. Miami Heat
DraftKings $7,600, FanDuel $8,300, Yahoo $39 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 47.0%, FanDuel 30.9% Yahoo Fantasy 46.8%
The Sunday nightcap should be a lot of fun from a fantasy perspective. Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro are out for the Heat. Portland will be missing Nassir Little and likely Anfernee Simons, who is in the concussion protocol. This should help decrease the defense, increase the pace of the game and give some extra minutes to a few players.
Not to bury the lede as many are thinking to themselves, but yes, this is a “remember me” game for Hassan Whiteside. In his first season with Portland, the 30-year old veteran of eight years is averaging 30.7 minutes per game. This is the second highest in his career and it also brings with it his best scoring, rebounding and assist totals with his second-best blocks per game.
We get a nice built-in floor with Whiteside having tallied a double-double in 38 of his 48 games. This is the fifth most in the league, making him a fine building block for our rosters tonight at his reasonable price point.
NBA DFS Picks: Good Value
Kendrick Nunn: Miami Heat at Portland Trailblazers
DraftKings $5,600, FanDuel $4,900, Yahoo $18 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 27.3%, FanDuel 49.7% Yahoo Fantasy 41.2%
This is a nice spot for Kendrick Nunn who is popping in most projection models with his probable minutes bump with Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro out of action tonight. He should again see something in the 34-36 range and approach 20 field goal attempts. On the season, Nunn is averaging 0.9 fantasy points per minute. In the 18 games he has played at least 32 minutes, he has topped 32 fantasy points in half of them. Goran Dragic is also a favorable option that should benefit from additional minutes and opportunities tonight.

Our standout SuperDraft recommendation for today is Bam Adebayo who will be saying hello to his old friend Hassan Whiteside. This season in 544.3 minutes without Jimmy Butler, Adebayo is averaging 1.27 fantasy points per game. Next we have a pair of teammates who got run out of the gym last night in a 142-115 loss to the Timberwolves in Minnesota. Tonight it is unlikely that Kawhi Leonard plays a back-to-back for the first time in three years. That puts both Paul George and Montrezl Harrell firmly in play with their above-average multipliers. This season without Leonard, George is averaging 1.57 fantasy points per minute and Harrell is averaging 1.22.

NBA DFS Picks: Risky Value
Tyus Jones: Memphis Grizzlies at Washington Wizards
DraftKings $3,800, FanDuel $4,600, Yahoo $10 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings <1.0%, FanDuel <1.0% Yahoo Fantasy <1.0%
This is just a word of caution as I have seen Tyus Jones popping in a few models for DraftKings and Yahoo today. Clearly the projected popularity is not following along. Keep in mind that we have to go back six games to when Memphis hosted Denver on Jan. 28 before Jones played along side rookie Ja Morant. Essentially Jones is the direct backup for Morant, so just keep in mind that he is likely to be on the short end of the minutes unless Morant gets into foul trouble. Tonight’s game against the Wizards projects to have a 240.0 game total, but I would still be setting a rule to not have Morant and Jones on the same lineup for my MME strategy.
Final Thoughts
Tonight should be a fun one with several games that will be missing defense (MEM at WAS, NYK at ATL) or teams missing key players that open up bonus opportunities (MIA at POR, LAC at CLE).
