DraftKings and FanDuel NHL Spotlight Plays of the Day for 4/13

There are 3-games tonight so we’ll have limited options, but it looks like all the home teams are in pretty favorable spots. To see where each player ranks for tonight, check out Awesemo’s rankings. He’ll give his take on each player below, and then I (Tommienation1) will follow up.

Top-Tier

Patric Hornqvist ($6,600 DK/$6,500 FD)

“Hornqvist is one of the top options the Penguins, who have the slate’s highest implied total at over 3.5 goals. In cash-games and tournaments it’ll be a tough fade.”

Hornqvist (“A” points grade) makes for a fantastic play in all formats tonight, as he should avoid the Couturier line once again and get time on that lethal Penguins’ top power-play. He’s one of the highest-volume shooters on their team and plays on a line with Evgeni Malkin, making him a great wing option tonight against a team that just surrendered 27 Scoring Chances Against two nights ago.

Dustin Byfuglien ($5,800 DK/$6,100 FD)

“Byfuglien should see well over 20 minutes again tonight including top power play time.”

Coming off a game in which he attempted a game-high 9 shots against this same Minnesota team, Byfuglien (“A” points grade) deserves a long look in all formats. Yes, he is the most expensive d-man, but the Wild do not have an answer for the Jets and even-strength or the power-play (on which Byfuglien enjoys QB duties). The shot volume should be there for him once again, and there is always assist upside when you’re playing with guys as talented as the Jets top-6.

Mid-Tier/Value

Nikolaj Ehlers ($5,400 DK/$5,900 FD)

“A high-volume shooter like Ehlers usually goes under-owned compared to his linemate, Patrik Laine, but he also is a “B” value tonight and gets power-play time.”

Ehlers should enjoy the matchup against the Cullen-Coyle combo which allows over 30 Scoring Chances Against per 60 minutes and 13.9 High-Danger Chances Against per 60 minutes. The Jets dominated Game-1 against the Wild, and being at home tonight, the Jets will likely outshoot and outchance them once again. Ehlers is worth his price on both sites in tournaments.

Colin Miller ($3,600 DK/$4,200 FD)

“Miller should see 17-18 minutes of ice time tonight including power-play time on the 2nd unit.”

Miller played 17 minutes last game on the third-pairing for the Golden Knights, but he attempted the most shots of any player in the game (9) in that limited time. He had only 4 shots on goal in Game-1, but nearly 3 minutes of power-play time, which is very valuable for DFS. Tonight, he’s a nice low-owned D-man that has some upside if Vegas is able to muster near their 2.8 implied total.
