Against the Grain: PGA DFS Picks for the Bermuda Championship | DraftKings + FanDuel

As we head into the fantasy golf offseason before peaking again at The Masters, the PGA DFS contests offered might be a tad lower than normal. This week it’s the Bermuda Championship as we dig in and find the best against-the-grain PGA DFS Picks from the slate for your fantasy golf lineups.

DraftKings’ top 11 has 11 very different names about whom we are used to talking, but that’s what the Bermuda Championship gives us. Will Zalatoris, who needs just a made cut to earn Special Temporary Membership on the PGA Tour, seems like he’s going to carry a tremendous weight around him this week. It is similar to a Euro event where the chalk just becomes chalkier. This is the first time we’ve seen a player projected for 30% ownership in quite some time. Defending Bermuda Championship winner Brendon Todd hasn’t played all that great recently, but well enough for him to push 20% as well this week.

Peter Malnati has ridden one of the hottest putters in the strokes gained era the last few weeks, and it looks like gamers are ready to chase that. Denny McCarthy, Harold Varner III, Cameron Tringale and Emiliano Grillo pop up next, as they are likely to be owned between 15-20 % this week. That leaves us with four golfers owned at 10% or less this week: Kristoffer Ventura, Doc Redman, Charley Hoffman and Henrik Stenson..

Certainly, a former major champion and prolific PGA Tour winner Henrik Stenson will be over 10% owned, right? It doesn’t look like it, to be honest. I’m interested in him for GPPs but have just as much interest in Doc Redman. Actually, I probably have more, especially to anchor a lot of my lineups. At 10% owned, I think he has skills comparable to Zalatoris at a third the ownership.

PGA DFS Picks: Nos. 11-32 Priced Golfers ($7,500-$9,400)

  • 21 Golfers
  • Total ownership 200%

A late-career resurgence for Stewart Cink has him playing some of his best golf in the last month. After a win with his son on the bag, and another two good starts following that, Cink is going to carry some ownership this week finally. Adam Schenk, who hasn’t been able to find any upside but subsequently not any real downside either, is likely to be owned around 20% as well this week.

Flying up the ownership/salary and odds board, much to my disliking, is my new toy, Justin Suh. He finally found his game during the COVID break and had a handful of good starts on the LocalIQ Series Tour. He’s translated that into the three top 21s on the PGA Tour and a top 10 in his last event. He still has a ways to go to get special temporary membership, but a win here this week would take care of that issue. He’ll be around 15% owned as well, as will Wesley Bryan, Sepp Straka and Pat Perez.

That should just about do it for golfers projected to be owned over 10% this week, with a bunch coming in pretty close to that mark, including:

  • Scott Piercy
  • Aaron Wise
  • Russell Knox
  • Luke List
  • Henrik Norlander

That still leaves us with plenty of golfers in this price range that will be under 10% owned this week. Some of those golfers are:

  • Patrick Rodgers
  • Scott Stallings
  • Maverick McNealy
  • Tom Lewis
  • Jhonattan Vegas
  • Rafa Cabrera-Bello
  • Brian Stuard
  • Rasmus Hojgaard
  • Danny Willett
  • Padraig Harrington

Top Against the Grain Plays

No one wants to roster the Euro Tour players I guess this week, with Lewis, Hojgaard, Cabrera-Bello, Willett and Harrington all getting below 10%. If I had to pick my favorite, Lewis has shown us the most in terms of the overall game since the restart and Hojgaard is a tremendous talent. The other three I’m not all that interested in. I also like McNealy, in a putting event at the Bermuda Championship, as well as Rodgers.

Editor’s Note

Awesemo’s fantasy golf expert Jason Rouslin likes Patrick Rodgers as one of his favorite against-the-grain plays in DFS this week. Rodgers is at 66:1 to win the Bermuda Championship this weekend in the PGA betting market. There is some variation in the lines across sportsbooks, so use OddsShopper to take advantage of this possible money-making player prop. Click on the image for more OddsShopper options.

PGA DFS Picks: The Rest ($7,400 and Below)

  • 98 Golfers
  • Total ownership of 240%

Hitting only 40% of the fairways last year here at Port Royal Golf Club didn’t hold Beau Hossler back from earning a top 25 here last year. His game seems to be in much better form now than it did last year at this same time, and with a guaranteed job for the next year, Hossler looks to get himself ahead in the FedEx Cup game rather than behind, where he’s been playing since he’s come on tour. These two weeks will be critical to the rest of the season and ultimately his career. He comes with over 10% ownership this week.

As does Tyler McCumber, who busted out with two top fives early in this season, and he, along with Cameron Percy, Anirban Lahiri, Doug Ghim and Wyndham Clark, will challenge 10% owned this week. Coming in close to 10%, but not quite there, includes:

  • Matt Jones
  • Max Homa
  • Troy Merritt
  • Kyle Stanley
  • Rob Oppenheim
  • Chase Seiffert

With almost 100 golfers to choose from in this price section, we still have plenty of options. A couple of guys that will be in my player pool this week and are likely to be at or under 5% owned his week include:

  • Kevin Tway
  • Kramer Hickok
  • Ryan Brehm
  • Camilo Villegas
  • Andrew Putnam
  • Keith Mitchell
  • Ollie Schniederjans
  • Branden Grace
  • Joseph Bramlett
  • Chesson Hadley

As I mentioned, I’ll have shares of all the golfers on the list directly above here. I also like Clark and Ghim a bit too, even with their higher than expected ownership.
