Just one day ahead of his expected participation at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, Xander Schauffele withdrew from Wednesday’s PGA TOUR pro-am tournament. Schauffele’s absence from the pro-am has led to speculation that he could withdraw from the Sentry as well.
Any changes to Schauffele’s status would have a significant impact on DFS projections and lineup strategies.
Rumors are now swirling that Schauffele could be suffering from an undisclosed injury. The #6 ranked golfer’s social media fan club Tweeted out:
Haven't seen any pics of Xander on the course on Monday and Tuesday, and now this…
Trying to figure out what the issue is, hopefully he's just a bit under the weather and everything is fine. https://t.co/ups3aLn2jT

Oddsmakers Yet to React
Although Xander Schauffele’s lines have shifted slightly, he remains on odds boards for the Sentry Tournament of Champions. Per DraftKings, he is +1100 to win the event, +210 to finish top-five and -120 to land in the top 10.
Schauffele has also maintained the same odds across futures markets. Schauffele is +1600 on DraftKings to win the Waste Management Open in February. His odds are +2200 to takedown the Master’s and +2000 to win the overall 2023 USPGA TOUR Championship.
Oddsmakers may be slow to react given the conflicting nature of news surrounding Schauffele. While his fans continue to speculate on potential injuries, Schauffele himself registered for the Farmer’s Insurance Open set to take place at Torrey Pines on January 25-28.
DFS players should pay careful attention to the news as lock approaches for the Sentry Tournament of Champions on Thursday afternoon. The field is now down to under forty golfers, meaning that any withdrawal would significantly impact the points and ownership projections.
Our Stokastic DFS projections currently account for Schauffele being in the tournament this week. He is projected for 109.1 DraftKings points, 112.5 on FanDuel and 115.1 on Yahoo. He is expected to garner 26.8% ownership on DraftKings and 34.5% on FanDuel. These are subject to change as more news is released on the top-tier golfer as we get closer to lock.
