Joe Burrow-Patrick Mahomes DFS Rankings & Analysis

Per Stokastic’s expert DFS projections, Joe Burrow ($6,800 on DraftKings) projects at 20.96 fantasy points, behind only Jalen Hurts (22.83) in the main slate projections. Patrick Mahomes ($7,600) ranks slightly behind at 20.42 points. Stokastic projects Burrow being owned in 34.5% of lineups, with Mahomes in just 21.7%.

The biggest worry for Mahomes backers is his ankle sprain suffered in the 27-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last weekend. Mahomes limped his way through the second half of the win and has been practicing throughout the week. He was able to play through a similar injury at the start of the 2019 season.

“It’s very similar, just a different ankle,’’ Mahomes said, per ESPN. “I’ll have to find ways to be able to push off and be able to still make the throws the right way.

“I think it’s just about being a competitor. All you can do is just mentally prepare yourself and your body throughout the week, and then you get to game day and you just have to focus on the game. That’s what I’ll try to do is prepare my body the best I can and get to the game and just go out there and play and try to find a way to win.’’

It’s been well-documented how good Burrow plays in playoffs and big games throughout his college and NFL career, and he’s had several signature moments against the Chiefs already. Leading the Bengals back from a 21-10 deficit in last year’s AFC Championship, Burrow completed 23 of 38 passes for 250 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also ran for 25 yards.

Burrow threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns in a snow-filled matchup against the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round. He will now face the luxury of going up against a Chiefs defense that ranked 18th in passing yards allowed during the regular season (220.9) and 16th in points allowed per game (21.7).

Both Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow certainly have the capabilities of going off in their AFC Championship showdown, but with all the unknown surrounding Mahomes and his mobility, go with the Bengals quarterback in DFS.
