Week 2 NFL Survivor Picks: Broncos Poised to Bounce Back From Ugly Loss With a Win at Home Against Texans

One week is in the books, and already there is drama in NFL survivor pools. Several favorites were upset in Week 1, along with a tie that most likely ended a decent number of teams in pools. Those who were lucky enough to survive are off to a great start, with upwards of 50% of people out after the first week. Let’s recap what happened in Week 1 and turn the page to the best targets for NFL Week 2 survivor.

NFL Survivor Picks and Recap | Week 2

Week 1 NFL Survivor Pool Recap

Baltimore Ravens (-7 at Jets)

This was this column’s pick, going very conservative with one of the biggest favorites in Week 1. Baltimore started a little slow but eventually took control against a Jets team that clearly has issues. Around 23% of people in Yahoo survivor leagues went to Baltimore, but it was relatively sweat-free for those that took the chalkiest team on the slate. Not having them going forward isn’t ideal, but mission accomplished to get the season started.

Indianapolis Colts (-8 at Texans)

The Colts were near the top, with 17% of people choosing to target the big road favorites. The result was a complete debacle, as they rallied to force overtime only to end up tying. Depending on leagues rules, some may have survived, but usually a tie is a loss in survivor. Indianapolis is a scary target no matter who they are playing, but with the weak AFC South, they still have to be considered a valuable asset.

Denver Broncos (-6.5 at Seahawks)

Denver was another popular choice, with 13% of people targeting the Monday Night Football game and the Denver Broncos. With Russell Wilson at quarterback and loads of talent around him, it’s easy to see why they were in play against the Geno Smith-led Seahawks. The result was probably the most painful loss of the week, with multiple red zone fumbles and one of the most questionable head coaching decisions in recent memory. The Broncos will still be a good team this year, but for survivor they were a landmine in Week 1.

Week 2 NFL Survivor Pool Picks

Los Angeles Rams (-11 vs. Falcons)

The Rams haven’t played since Thursday when the Bills dominated them in the season opener. They have some work to do, but the quality of opponent softens up with the Falcons coming to town. Atlanta looked good against New Orleans in Week 1, but this is a tough spot for Marcus Mariota and that offense. With the Falcons still one of the weaker defensive units in the league, it’s an easy case to make for double-digit favorites like the Rams. They will be one of the most popular targets in Week 2, if not the most popular, but they also are probably the safest bet on the board.

Cleveland Browns (-6 vs. Jets)

Those in larger pools have to be a little more aggressive. This still is a fairly obvious play, but it isn’t to the level of the Rams, who are 11-point favorites. Cleveland finally started 1-0 after a hard-fought win against Carolina, and now they get the Jets coming to town. With a division comprised of the Ravens, Steelers and Bengals, there aren’t a ton of easy wins on the schedule, so this one stood out. Picking on the Jets is a popular and effective survivor technique, and it’s hard to think the Browns won’t have many opportunities to cause Joe Flacco and that offense problems.

Denver Broncos (-10 vs. Texans)

Everyone still has the Broncos available, because those who used them last week were eliminated. After a miserable showing on the road in Seattle, they get a perfect bounce-back spot at home against the Texans. Although Houston looked good last week against Indianapolis, they have minimal chance of slowing down this Broncos offense or generating points of their own. If Denver avoids the multiple key turnovers, they should have an easy path to a Week 2 victory.

Week 2 NFL Survivor Pick: Denver Broncos

Teams Used: Ravens

The Broncos set up perfectly to bounce back after a poor Week 1 showing. They aren’t the biggest favorite on the slate, with the Rams taking that crown, but at the same time they are north of -400 in the betting markets and poised to win comfortably. The talent on offense should be too much for Houston, and fewer turnovers will have them cruise to a win.
