In NBA DFS and daily fantasy basketball as a whole, it is not as simple as rostering who we think the best play is. We have to consider the odds each individual player has of going off or busting. Nobody is a sure thing. With the Awesemo NBA DFS Boom vs. Bust Tool, we have our own odds to help us navigate range of outcomes for NBA daily fantasy. DraftKings + FanDuel Boom/Bust Projections | Feb. 16
NBA Fantasy Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Boom Candidates
LeBron James vs. Timberwolves: $10,500/$10,100
52.4% DraftKings Boom/48.7% FanDuel Boom
With Anthony Davis out for an extended period of time because of an Achilles injury, the Lakers will have to lean on LeBron. His MVP odds are skyrocketing at sportsbooks, and I think this partly because of an expectation of an expanding role that is impending. Without Davis healthy, James sees a bump in multiple ways. Not only does he see a 1.6% usage increase when Davis is off the court, the Lakers also rely on James to play increased minutes in games that Davis misses. He also looks like he will go under-owned since he is projected for around 30% ownership with odds of over 40% to end up in the optimal lineup.

Michael Porter Jr. vs. Celtics: $5,800/$5,500
34% DraftKings Boom/51% FanDuel Boom
Porter is a tough player to nail down. He’s struggled since coming back from COVID, but he’s still generally a player I think of as a good fantasy producer. For the season, Porter scores over a fantasy point per minute, and he reclaimed his starting job last week. Porter was playing limited minutes when he first returned to the Nuggets following a three-week COVID absence. I expect him to get back on track sooner rather than later, and his salary is certainly appealing.
Anfernee Simons vs. Thunder: $4,100/$4,000
23.9% DraftKings Boom/21% FanDuel Boom
Injuries continue to hit the Trail Blazers. As if the injuries to C.J. McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic were not enough, Rodney Hood and Harry Giles are now also out. This could potentially mean that Portland will only run a rotation with eight players tonight. This puts all of the Blazers’ active players in line for a bigger role. I expect more small ball lineups and Simons could approach 30 minutes off the bench. He played 24 minutes last game and that was with Giles active. This slate doesn’t have a ton of value at the moment and Simons isn’t picking up much ownership.
NBA Fantasy Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Bust Candidates
Chris Boucher vs. Bucks: $7,200/$6,600
60.6% DraftKings Bust/54.3% FanDuel Bust
The playing time for Boucher is continually a nightmare to predict. To make matters trickier, the Raptors are apparently looking to trade for Andre Drummond, which would reduce Boucher’s already inconsistent role in the rotation. Considering the trade rumors and the fact that Boucher only played 18 minutes last game, it looks like he is starting to fall out of favor in Toronto.
