NBA Fantasy Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Boom Candidates

Keldon Johnson vs. Magic: $5,400/$4,800

39.8% DraftKings Boom/35.1% FanDuel Boom

The Spurs are a team to get exposure to tonight. LaMarcus Aldridge is no longer a part of the team, as the Spurs are looking to move him to a more favorable situation. He was a surprise scratch prior to the game on Wednesday after he lost his starting job prior to the All-Star break. In addition, DeMar DeRozan is away from the team because of personal reasons. This is opening up a bunch of playing time and usage for the Spurs. Johnson has played limited minutes as of late, but this is because he was working his way back from COVID. I expect him to play a full allotment of minutes tonight and benefit with San Antonio short-handed.

Joel Embiid vs. Wizards: $10,700/$10,700

28% DraftKings Boom/50% FanDuel Boom

My favorite players to pay up for on this slate are Embiid and Nikola Jokic. Since Jokic is currently projected for more ownership and I have the two projected similarly, I am leaning towards Embiid as the slightly stronger play. He missed yesterday’s game due to COVID protocols, but he never tested positive and shouldn’t have any restrictions tonight. Ben Simmons remains in the COVID protocols and won’t play tonight which should push Embiid into a bigger role. Without Simmons on the court, Embiid leads the 76ers with a massive 41.6% usage rate.

Kevin Porter vs. Jazz: $4,900/$3,200

28.6% DraftKings Boom/7.1% FanDuel Boom

We desperately need an updated injury report from the Rockets. After last nights game, Stephen Silas said that he only expects to have eight players active for tonight’s game. This implies that Danuel House, P.J. Tucker, Rodions Kurucs, John Wall, Eric Gordon, Dante Exum, Christian Wood and David Nwaba are all out tonight. In short, everybody active for the Rockets makes for a good value. Even though the matchup against the Jazz is awful and Houston is a 17.5-point underdog, somebody has to score. They won’t put 0 points on the board. Porter made his Rockets debut last night and had an impressive showing, so he stands out as the top value on the Rockets for me.

NBA Fantasy Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Bust Candidates

Zach LaVine vs. Heat: $9,600/$9,400

73.6% DraftKings Bust/58.6% FanDuel Bust

LaVine is a difficult player to prioritize tonight. He draws a very tough matchup against the Heat and is playing on the tail end of a back-to-back. To make it tougher to get to him, he plays at a position that is loaded with value, and there are stronger options to pay up for on the slate. This game against the Heat has one of the lowest totals on the slate, and the Bulls are one of the worst teams to target of the 14 in action today.
