Pacers and Magic Over 223 Points

While neither team is an offensive juggernaut, there should be plenty of points put on the board in this one, as both squads rank in the bottom third in defensive efficiency for the season. Granted, Orlando is playing much better of late, as the Magic are once again healthy with Jalen Suggs and Wendell Carter Jr. returning to the court over the last few weeks. The Magic are 4-6 over their last 10 games, as they are averaging 107.7 points and allowing about 110 a game. More importantly, the Magic are playing at a pretty brisk pace of 100.44 possessions a game and have have a 54.7% effective field goal percentage while allowing an effective field goal percentage of 51.6%.

Indiana has struggled mightily on the defensive end in 2022. Since the New Year, the Pacers have posted the second-worst defensive rating in the league of 118.1, though they also have recorded an offensive rating of 111.6. Similarly, their opponents have an effective field goal percentage of 55.3% against them.

Indiana will be without Domantas Sabonis and Malcolm Brogdon tonight, so expect the Pacers to push the pace. They have generally played faster and, therefore, given up more points when Sabonis has been out. Six of Indiana’s last eight games have seen at least 223 points on the board.

Celtics Spread (-6) Over Hornets; Under 226.5 Points

Boston has won four of five and enters the game pretty healthy. The Celtics are coming off a strong performance in their 122-92 home victory over Miami. Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum continue to lead the way. Brown tossed in a game-high 29 points against Miami, marking the fourth straight game in which he has scored 26 points or more and the 20th time out of the last 22 that he has tallied at least 20. Meanwhile, Tatum picked up his ninth double-double since Dec. 1 against the Heat, as he recorded 20 points and 12 rebounds. Both Tatum and Brown have played well against Charlotte in the two previous games against the Hornets, which the teams split with each squad winning on the other team’s home floor.

Meanwhile, Charlotte had a two-game winning streak snapped by the Clippers on Sunday. The Hornets have lost three of five and are 6-4 in their last 10. Defense continues to be their biggest issue, and they are allowing their opponents to shoot 47.4% from the field and 37.8% from beyond the arc on the road. They will be without Gordon Hayward (healthy and safety) and Jaden McDaniels (ankle), though Kelly Oubre Jr. (ankle) is expected to be available. OddsShopper gives the Celtics a 70% chance of winning and a 54% chance of covering.

Boston has been fantastic on the defensive end lately and at home, which is why the under is the play. The under has gone up 3 points since the opening line. The Celtics have held nine of their last 18 opponents to under 100 points, and they allow fewer than 103 points at home this year.

Kevin Porter Jr. Under 16.5 Points

Porter has shot the ball pretty well lately, scoring in double figures in seven straight games. He is averaging 15.4 points on 43.5% shooting from the field while also making 38.4% of his 3’s over the last 10 games. However, Cleveland has done a very good job at containing point guards this year. The Cavaliers are holding opposing lead guards to the sixth-fewest points in the league (21.7) on 43% shooting from the field and 35.7% from long distance.

Porter is projected for 12.42 points. OddsShopper gives the under a 70% chance of hitting and an expected ROI of 32%.
