Course Facts & Figures
Riviera Country Club is a major championship-level venue, hosting three in its history. Also slated to host the Olympics in 2028, it has withstood the test of time and provides a fantastic venue year in and year out. There is no better testament to that than every single golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking is scheduled to tee it up this week. It is the third year as an invitational; after getting the upgrade from the PGA Tour, the tournament has a limited field of just 120 players, including the Charles Sifford Exemption, awarded to players of color aspiring to be a pro golfer. This year’s recipient is Aaron Beverly.

Course History at the Genesis Invitational
While it has not been an invitational forever, the event has been played at Riviera Country Club. That provides plenty of years of history to pull from when analyzing performance at this course. No golfer in the field has been better here than Dustin Johnson, who since 2012 has only one missed cut and nine other finishes inside of the top 16, including a win and two runner-up finishes.
Only Hideki Matsuyama, Adam Scott, Bubba Watson and Johnson have more than two top-10s here since 2012. A few others with notable history include Jon Rahm, who is 3-for-3 here with two top-10s, Patrick Cantlay, who has four top-17s and one top-five. Xander Schauffele has four top-23s in four trips and one top-10. Rory McIlroy has four top-20s but also one missed cut, while Talor Gooch is 3-for-3, with all three starts finishing top 20 or better.
Lastly, James Hahn has some of the best histories here for lower-end players, having a win and going 7-for-8 in made cuts, with six of the eight finishes ending in a tie for 29th or better.
PGA Fantasy & DFS Golf Sweat Sheet
It is not often that one hole at a tournament gets over 20% of the total DraftKings point scored on it, but it is even rarer that it is the first hole. The other three holes that get over 8% are the 10th — a drivable par 4 with a treacherous green — and the other two par 5’s on the course, the 11th and 17th.
Genesis Invitational PGA DFS Player Preview
As mentioned earlier, all of the top 10 golfers in the world are here to compete. In addition to them, another 25 of the world’s top 50 are also here, providing the strongest showing yet.

Genesis Invitational Strokes Gained Review
All was in line for Tony Finau to pick up his first win since the Puerto Rico Open until Max Homa stole the show in his hometown. Both used a through-the-bag approach, gaining strokes in all four measured categories to perform their best. Others like Sam Burns, Matt Jones, Patrick Rodgers and Wyndham Clark all used a putter-first approach to earn some of their best finishes of the year. But overall, performing well in all the categories is what it takes to win, with about a half a stroke fewer strokes gained with the putter, on average, for the top 10 finishers last year.
Averages for the Top 10 Last Year:
- Strokes Gained Off the Tee: 0.33
- Strokes Gained on Approach: 0.83
- Strokes Gained Around the Green: 0.49
- Strokes Gained Putting: 0.7
- DFS Points Scored: 89.5
- DFS Ownership: 11.6%
- Average DFS Salary: $8,454
