Monkey Knife Fight PGA Picks This Week for The John Deere Classic

The John Deere Classic takes place at TPC Deere Run (par 71, 7,268 yards) and is making its return to the PGA schedule after being canceled a year ago due to the coronavirus pandemic. Dylan Frittelli took home the top prize here at 21 strokes under par back in 2019, and the average winning score of the last 10 John Deere Classics has been -21.5. If you have not already, this week is a perfect time to check out Monkey Knife Fight — a new style of PGA fantasy with a twist on the usual DFS golf this week — with the fantasy site offering some great contests for the John Deere Classic. Below I will break down some of the best fantasy golf Monkey Knife Fight picks.

MKF Fantasy Golf Picks | John Deere Classic

This Monkey Knife Fight contest is like a prop in that players must choose if each golfer will score more or less of their fantasy line. If both are correct, the payout is 2.5 times the buy-in. It is worth noting that MKF’s fantasy golf scoring system is different compared to other DFS sites. No points are awarded for finishing position or streaks, nor do players lose points for bogeys. Their scoring system is simple:

Eagle or Better: 5

Birdie: 3

Par: 1

More or Less – Pick More/Less for Each Player | Prize: 2.5x

Daniel Berger: More than 102.5 fantasy points

Sungjae Im: More than 102.5 fantasy points

Both Berger and Im head to TPC Deere Run in compelling form, and each player should exceed this fantasy line at this birdie fest. Berger is the current favorite to win this week, and he was excellent in his last start, carding a seventh-place finish at the U.S. Open. This was his sixth top-10 this season, and after the excellent showing at that major, Berger ranks third in strokes gained on approach and first in greens found over his last 12 rounds. The elite iron play should translate to great success at TPC Deere Run, where three of the past five John Deere winners have ranked inside the top 10 in strokes gained on approach. Berger is 2-for-2 at TPC Deere Run for his career, including a fifth place in 2017, and according to Awesemo’s Unofficial World Golf Rankings here at Awesemo, Berger is the fifth-best golfer on the planet right now.

At last week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic, which was also at a very easy course in Detroit Golf Club, Im posted an eighth-place finish. He produced positive strokes in every major category, including 8.2 strokes from tee to green, which was his second-best output in that stat for the season. Furthermore, Im gained the second-most strokes on par 4’s. The last three players to secure a win at TPC Deere Run have led their fields in strokes gained on par 4’s, and if Im can carry over this impressive form to the John Deere Classic, beating this line shouldn’t be difficult.

Brian Harman: More than 18.5 birdies

Russell Henley: More than 18.5 birdies

Harman has been outstanding recently, with seven top-20 finishes in his last eight starts. The main two skills needed at this venue are strong putting and ball striking, both of which Harman has been doing exceptionally lately. In his last 24 rounds he ranks sixth in strokes gained tee to green, fifth in strokes gained putting and 16th in birdie-or-better percentage. He also has four top-25 finishes at the John Deere Classic in only seven appearances, including a win in 2014.

As for Henley, it also very hard to argue against him this week. In just his second start at TPC Deere Run in 2019, he led the field with a ridiculous 28 birdies and finished runner-up to Frittelli. Now he returns to TPC Deere Run off of a 13th-place finish at the U.S. Open and a 19th-place finish at the Travelers. At both events Henley amassed over five strokes from tee to green, and he has been phenomenal on bentgrass this season, ranking first in total strokes gained on the surface.
