I am primarily a GPP PGA DFS player and enjoy making up to 450 lineups, so the allocations I give out are likely not exact, but they are my target for the mass-entry GPPs. And so, if this is your first time reading it, let’s go over what you can find in it.

Key/Legend

The following sections define who will play and what recommended allocation you should play them at:

  • Core: We will start with these golfers in every lineup. At least two from my core will be in every one of the lineups.
  • PFs: We all have our guys, and these are mine. They will be in the player pool at a minimum of 20%. I have seven, and they are quite common: Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Spieth, Brian Harman, Collin Morikawa, Brian Stuard and, at times, Bryson DeChambeau.
  • Chalk Zone: These golfers are expected to be the most popular golfers of the week. They are supposed to be widely owned, and so, in a massive GPP, a winning lineup likely won’t have more than one of the guys listed in this area.
  • Alternates: On the PGA Tour, alternates are lucky to get in the field each week. However, it happens all the time due to injuries. In this section, we’ll identify a few lineup alternates that can help fill a lineup and still provide some decent upside.
  • Recommended Allocation: The percentage of time said golfer should be in your lineups, or at least what we are advocating.
  • Projected Ownership: The percentage that the field will have said golfer in their lineups.
  • Variance: The difference between Recommended Allocation and Projected Ownership. A favorable variance gives you leverage.

Last Week’s Recap

I had another tough letdown last week. Heading into the weekend my big-dollar on FanDuel looked to be in prime shape to burst up the board. But it was to no avail, as I could only get one in the top five by Sunday, with Joaquin Niemann giving all his strokes gained back over the weekend. GPP results were not good due to missing so many lower-priced golfers in the core. I won’t have to worry about that this week.

Weather

Welcome to sunny Florida during the best time of year. It’s mid-7os by the middle of the day and stays that way right through sundown. There is not a lot of wind in the forecast either.

Fantasy Golf Favorites for the WGC Workday

While I believe Jordan Spieth may not be here, I’ll get plenty of my “favorite” fill with Patrick Cantlay and Collin Morikawa. Cantlay is as close to a win as you can get on the PGA Tour, and Morikawa is going way under-owned.

Core Golfers (DraftKings Price/FanDuel Price)

Jon Rahm ($11,100/$11,900)

Of all of the top guys, outside of Cantlay, I’m most overweight Rahm. I think he’s trending the best out of all these golfers right now, and he couldn’t make anything the first two days last week, yet he still found his way into the top five. He is back on a Nicklaus course this week — on which he’s won recently — and now the form matches up. I’ll take the price and ownership discount against Dustin Johnson.

Bryson DeChambeau ($9,900/$11,300)

I’ve said it all week, but the last 10 holes from Friday are drawing me back in. Obviously, DeChambeau’s win here in 2015 just means that he’s played the course a few more times than the others in the field, but I’m more so leaning on the middle ownership and high-leverage spot for him.

Viktor Hovland ($9,400/$10,800)

Hovland didn’t let me down last week, and even though he’s more expensive this week, that also comes with lower ownership. My new theme this year is, if you like a guy, don’t worry about his price. Just play him because if you think he’s priced too high, it likely will come with lower ownership. I’ll use Hovland in my main lineup on DraftKings instead of Cantlay, and I will use Cantlay on both my $444 teams on FanDuel for the leverage there.

Sungjae Im ($8,800/$10,200)

Im’s first start back after a couple of weeks off is met with lower ownership. That is likely just a bid that people don’t exactly know where his game is, but he’s been as good off the tee this year. It has been his short game holding him back. A switch to Bermuda surfaces will maybe give him the break he needs, as we know he won on Bermuda last year. At a projection of less than 10% ownership, this is an easy core play for me this week, especially below $9,000.

Scottie Scheffler ($8,300/$10,000)

The variability in Scheffler’s game right now is a bit drastic, with rounds of 4 and 5 under, accompanied by two 3-overs last week. He had something similar at the Farmers Insurance as well, going 7 under and 7 over in his two days in San Diego. That says a couple of things to me: One is that he’s an aggressive player, and that hurts him in bad conditions; two, a hot putter typically means a big-scoring week on DraftKings given how aggressive he plays. I’ll buy into that at around 10% ownership.

Will Zalatoris ($8,000/$8,800)

Speaking of FanDuel, Zalatoris is coming in as one of the best values on the slate, in my opinion. He is priced right about the average on DraftKings yet is $1,300 away from the average on FanDuel. That’s enough for me to jump on board. I’ll load up on FanDuel while trying to pay up for Scheffler on DraftKings.

Matthew Wolff ($7,600/$8,400)

It is better to be early than late in PGA DFS, and I think that Wolff’s and DeChambeau’s games are very similar to each other. So I’ll leverage that and play them in the same lineup quite a bit in an effort to catch the week where Wolff is able to keep the driver somewhere on this planet.

Golfers Under $7,000 in My Big-Dollar Lineups

As you can see, there is quite a gap between more core plays this week, and that’s pretty simple. I’m building aggressively, leading me to stacking two golfers below $7,000 with a mixture of other four, all above $8,000. That obviously leaves a gaping hole, and if the middle section of this field plays well, I could be in a spot of trouble. Here are the golfers under $7,000 that got in my big-dollar lineups and will have the highest allocation to them in my GPP lineups.

  • Victor Perez ($6,900/$8,100): Perez is either in contention or missing the cut as of late, as he has a win and a fourth mixed in with two missed cuts in his last four starts. Still, he is the 30th-ranked player in the world and has a recent top-five. That’s enough for me.
  • Abraham Ancer ($6,800/$8,200): It’s a pretty obvious play here, as Ancer’s odds to win are priced with that of Wolff and others in the mid-$7,000 range. He will be chalky because of it, though.
  • Lanto Griffin ($6,700/$7,700): It has quietly been another big year for Griffin, having made four of five cuts, including a seventh at the Farmers. In those four starts where he’s made the cut, he has averaged over a 10x return and has beaten the average by quite a bit. Below $7,000 in this field, he presents the safest play down here outside of Ancer.
  • Rasmus Hojgaard ($6,700/N/A): That’s right, even though I tweeted them on Monday, FanDuel still hasn’t gotten Hojgaard into the player pool. Back-to-back Top-10s are enough for me to get involved.
  • Cameron Champ ($6,500/$7,400): Words sung famously by the Jonas Brothers apply here: “I’m a sucker for you.” Under $7,000, Champ has 16 guaranteed par 5’s this week. Sign me up.
  • Sebastian Munoz ($6,500/$7,100): Having played with Spieth the first couple of rounds last week, we got to watch Munoz quite a bit. And it looks like he was pretty close. A bad day in the conditions on Saturday pushed him down the board, but he’s priced with some of the Australasian players over on FanDuel, showing good value there.
  • David Lipsky ($6,000/$7000): Proximity to the event and decent form is enough for me to gamble a few bucks on Lipsky this week.
