The Jock MKT Starter Kit: NBA Picks | March. 4

How to Play at Jock MKT

To begin, enter the NBA Daily Market when the Initial Public Offering (IPO) phase is under way. Leading up until the start of the first game, bid up on players you are interested in acquiring on the open market. Is there a player who you consider a favorite to finish at the top of the rankings? Invest as much or as little as you want in their fantasy performance, with shares beginning at $1 and ranging all the way up to $25. See potential injury news that could open up an opportunity for another player to acquire fantasy points? Make speculative bids for shares of the back-up, hoping for that news to break after the IPO phase is complete.

The next part of the game occurs during live trading. Unlike in regular NBA DFS where your plays are locked in, you can buy and sell shares of players while the games are happening based on their production and where you could see them finishing amongst the field. Track as current points, projected points, and live price for each player is updated in real time, allowing you to track the action and invest in an instant to account for news. Trading can be done all the way up until the final buzzer of the night’s final game.

At the end of the games, each player share is paid out based on their final rankings of fantasy points amongst the field. If the shares you own are worth more than what you paid, you win money. It’s as simple as that! For more information, go to jockmkt.com.

Strategy Session: Depleted Rosters

For the final night of NBA basketball before the All-Star Break, there are nine games on the schedule, but Jock MKT’s slate will only consist of seven of these contests. The Celtics – Raptors and Clippers – Wizards will not be included, and the IPO will close at 7:30 EST tonight. The seven remaining games bring a ton of star power and also a numerous injury situations to monitor. The first team we should keep our eye on is the Heat. Their top two players, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, are both listed as questionable with knee injuries. Butler has missed the past two, and Adebayo hasn’t sat out in nearly two months. Given that this is the finale before a long layoff, it would make sense for at least one of these players to get the day off, and if I were to guess, I think Butler will be out Thursday.

If this turns out to be the case, Tyler Herro, Kendrick Nunn and Goran Dragic will all receive boosts, and if I had to choose one to attack in the IPO tonight, I prefer Nunn. He struggled on Tuesday night, recording only 10.5 Jock points, but he still garnered 35.4 minutes of action sans Butler. In the previous contest, Nunn showed us the upside he brings when Butler is inactive, tallying 40.75 Jock points against the Hawks. With that poor fantasy score in his last start, most should shy away from Nunn, and we should be able to get shares of him at a much lower cost than either Dragic or Herro. It also helps that this is a beautiful matchup against the Pelicans, who rank second-to-last in defensive efficiency. Now, if Adebayo were to be out of the equation, Kelly Olynyk would be an excellent target in the IPO. If the unexpected situation unfolded that both Butler and Adebayo were unable to suit up, almost every Heat player would be viable, with Olynyk and Nunn being my two favorites.

The other injury debacle I am watching closely is the Knicks. Derrick Rose (health protocols) is questionable and Elfrid Payton (hamstring) is doubtful. The latter will ultimately be ruled out, and unless Rose’s COVID-19 situation was a total false alarm, I can’t imagine he will be allowed to rejoin his team tonight. With both of these guards missing from action Tuesday, Immanuel Quickley didn’t draw the start at point, but he was the player that benefited most. With 29 minutes off the bench, the rookie posted 34.5 Jock points against the Rockets. His usage was at an elite level of 39.3%, and when Payton and Rose have been off the floor since the Knicks acquired Rose last month, Quickley has averaged a team-high 34.4% usage rate. Facing an average Pistons’ defense (17th in efficiency) that just competed last night, Quickley be an excellent IPO investment if Rose is out again.

My JOCK MKT NBA Picks for Tonight:

DeMar DeRozan

The Spurs have been hit with a COVID-19 outbreak will be without Derrick White, Rudy Gay and Devin Vassell for the third straight game. With his club thin, DeRozan has supplied 38.25 Jock points in these last two and Thursday night delivers a favorable matchup against the Thunder.

After playing last night, Oklahoma City is expected to be without Al Horford given that he hasn’t played in both legs of a back-to-back yet this season. Even at age 34, Horford is still a great defender, and the Thunder have given up 115.8 points per game across their last five without him. With a heavy weight on his shoulders, DeRozan should stuff the stat sheet and beat his Jock projection tonight.

Isaiah Roby

Outside of one contest that he was also inactive for, Roby has started in every contest Horford has missed this season. He has produced right under 1 fantasy point per minute this year and is amassing 27.2 minutes per game when he has replaced Horford in starting five.

The Spurs are an appetizing spot for opposing centers, surrendering the 11th-most points the paint and the sixth-most rebounds per game this season. Their lack of depth should make matters even worse, and Roby is a double-double threat tonight that should be inexpensive in the IPO.

Jonas Valanciunas

To close out the first half of the season, the Grizzlies will host the Bucks tonight, and this contest’s total is up to 235 points. The Bucks aren’t the elite defense they were a year ago, and opposing centers abuse them on a nightly basis. Just this past Tuesday night, Nikola Jokic destroyed them for 66 Jock points, and they are yielding the ninth-most rebounds per game over their last five.

Valanciunas obviously isn’t the same caliber of player as Jokic, but his 28.77 Jock point projection and 33rd rank in the IPO are both extremely low for the center in this spot. He has provided over 30 Jock points in three of his past four and has beaten his Jock projection in six of his last 10 starts. Valanciunas could easily finish inside the top 15 in Jock points tonight, and I highly recommend grabbing some shares of the big man.
