NBA DFS Building Blocks Today: Sunday, October 30

Core Play of the Day — Karl-Anthony Towns: Minnesota Timberwolves-San Antonio Spurs

  • Stokastic’s Preliminary Point Projections: DraftKings: 44.06 | FanDuel: 42.35
  • Stokastic’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: DraftKings: 15.9% | FanDuel: 24.6%
  • DFS Salary: DraftKings: $8,500 | FanDuel: $8,400

One benefit of Rudy Gobert joining the Timberwolves is now Karl-Anthony Towns has picked up power forward eligibility on both DraftKings and FanDuel. So far this season, Towns has averaged 35.5 minutes per game which is the most we have seen from him since the 2017-2018 season. Though his field goal attempts and rebounding opportunities are at five-year lows, he is averaging a career best 5.5 assists through half a dozen games and also getting his share of three-point attempts.

This is one of the best rosters that has been assembled by Minnesota in recent history. Anthony Edwards, D’Angelo Russell and glue guy Jaden McDaniels have become a formidable starting unit and the T-wolves are off to a 4-2 start with their sights set on a postseason run. Tonight’s matchup in San Antonio is a favorable one as the Spurs have been outstanding on offense and despite tanking this season, they also are 4-2.

In a scheduling quirk, this will be the third time these teams have faced each other in the last seven days and Towns has recorded two of his three best fantasy performances in this matchup. Among the dozen players projected for more than 40 fantasy points tonight, Towns has the best point per dollar ratio on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

Luka Doncic: Dallas Mavericks-Orlando Magic

  • Stokastic’s Preliminary Point Projections: DraftKings: 58.7 | FanDuel: 54.84
  • Stokastic’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: DraftKings: 13.2% | FanDuel: 27.6%
  • DFS Salary: DraftKings: $12,200 | FanDuel: $12,000

In a fickle twist of fate, the Mavericks lost at home last night 117-111 in overtime to a tanking Oklahoma City squad. Dallas did win 129-125 in overtime in New York on Thursday, humbling the Nets. This of course is the third game in four nights and Luka Doncic did play 40 minutes in each of these contests.

The Mavericks are now 2-3 and really need to put away Orlando tonight in this eminently winnable matchup. Doncic is leading Dallas in scoring, rebounds, assists and steals. Every time he sets foot on the court, he is live for a triple-double and he is averaging a career best 1.8 fantasy points per minute. Value is abundant today and there are paths to working in Doncic to our lineups at $12,000, while pairing him with another superstar.

The Magic are short-handed and even though Doncic may be a little lead-legged, keep in mind he holds the record for the fastest 30-point triple-double, posting one in just under 23 minutes against the Warriors back in 2019.

Additional NBA DFS Picks Today – Sports Wagering Opportunities

Monte Morris has a very low 2.5 over/under rebounds prop, which is low for a starting guard. The Stokastic NBA player projections have him for 3.8 rebounds, which gives him a 72% likelihood of surpassing this milestone. Morris has three or more rebounds in four of his five games this season and he is live to reach that threshold for a fifth time tonight against Boston.

Houston Rockets-Phoenix Suns

Houston will be without Eric Gordon (rest) and Bruno Fernando (knee) with Jabari Smith (ankle) questionable. If Smith starts, consider him a full go as there is no reason for the Rockets to push him in what is a rebuilding season. Jalen Green, Kevin Porter Jr., and Alperen Sengun are all priority plays. KJ Martin Jr. and Jae’Sean Tate are fine on the two-game late slate or as tournament fodder on the main slate.

Deandre Ayton is going to be out for at least a week with a sprained ankle, which means that Bismack Biyombo and Jock Landale are two of the best value options on the board. The only challenge is that they are both eligible at center, but on DraftKings it is fine to use one in the utility option if you want to roster both.

The Stokastic projections have Landale with 28 minutes and Biyombo with 20, but this could easily be close to an even split, or Biyombo could see more playing time. Even without Ayton, the Suns are 12.5-point home favorites.

Devin Booker and Chris Paul are solid plays and they could easily post viable tournament production in three quarters of play. Cameron Johnson and Cameron Payne would be in line for solid minutes in mop up duty.

Denver Nuggets-Los Angeles Lakers

Los Angeles is just not equipped to deal with Nikola Jokic and he just missed out on a triple-double against them on Wednesday while leading the Nuggets to a 110-99 victory. The only challenge with Jokic is that there are a lot of center value options today. Of course that along with an appropriately lofty salary could also keep his popularity in check.

Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. are playable, though as they are being eased back after missing most of last season, they will need to be incredibly efficient if they are to reach their fantasy ceilings. Aaron Gordon and Bruce Brown Jr. are better point per dollar options, though they are neutral plays from a full-slate perspective.

LeBron James (foot) is a game-time decision, though it would be a surprise if he sits. Anthony Davis (back) did not play in Minnesota on Friday and Mr. Glass tends to miss games in bunches. If he plays, he is solid, though we are unlikely to know his status prior to tipoff of the final game of the night. If Davis is out, Russell Westbrook is in play if Davis is out as he should remain in the starting lineup.

If Davis starts, there is word around the campfire that Westbrook is going to be sent to the second unit. We will see if head coach Darvin Ham follows through on that. Patrick Beverly, Lonnie Walker IV, Austin Reaves and Troy Brown get a boost if Davis sits, though if he plays this motley crew is still viable if Juan Toscano-Anderson (ankle) is forced to miss another game tonight.
