The PGA TOUR kicks off another major on Thursday with the 2023 U.S. Open. Fans and PGA DFS players can put the drama of the LIV Golf merger behind them and enjoy one of the top tournaments on TOUR. DraftKings posted two Milly Makers and several other huge PGA DFS GPPs for the Major Championship.
Let’s go through my 2023 US Open DFS core plays to help you get to the top of the leaderboards and take down some of those huge prizes. In addition to my picks, be sure to use Stokastic projections for other top recommendations.
2023 U.S. Open DFS Core Plays
Xander Schauffele, $9,600
Xander Schauffele’s recent form has been great. Couple that with his U.S. Open track record and Xander is pretty hard to pass up at his price. He’s gained over 30 strokes tee-to-green in his last four starts, and also has six straight top-25 finishes, including three top-10s. Schauffele’s history at the U.S. Open is even more impressive. He has never finished worse than 14th, securing five top-10 finishes in his six career starts at the event. Xander’s skillset is tailor-made to compete on difficult courses like the one he’ll see this week, making him stand out as my favorite play in the $9k-range on DraftKings.
Tommy Fleetwood, $7,900
Tommy Fleetwood heads into the 2023 U.S. Open with a ton of momentum. He has two top-five finishes in his last four starts, including a 2nd-place finish at the Canadian Open last week. Fleetwood ranks 12th in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and 4th in SG: Putting in his last 24 rounds. He also has a nice history at the U.S. Open, including two top-five finishes. While Fleetwood won’t get overlooked in large field GPPs, the value on him is too good to pass up.
Rickie Fowler, $7,500
Rickie Fowler is experiencing a career renaissance this PGA season. It’s the best golf Fowler has played in five years. He has six top-15 finishes in his last seven starts, and ranks 14th in SG: Approach and 4th in SG: Around the Green over his last 24 rounds. The fairways and greens are expected to play firm and fast this week, which should favor Fowler’s accuracy into the greens and elite play around the green. It’s a deadly combination of skills for Rickie, who I expect to continue his strong 2023 campaign this week.
GPP Flier – Sepp Straka, $7,100
Straka has really been rounding into form over the last month or so. After an impressive 7th place finish at the PGA Championship in May, he followed it up with a 29th at Colonial and a 16th at the Memorial in early June. He ranks 9th in SG: Approach over the last 24 rounds, suggesting he may be in one of those hot iron streaks that have produced numerous high finishes throughout his career. Coming in with very little projected ownership, he’s worth taking a shot on in large field GPP play.
