NBA DFS Picks: Wednesday, Feb. 1
Core Play of the Day — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: Oklahoma City Thunder-Houston Rockets
- Stokastic’s Preliminary Point Projections: DraftKings: 50.92 | FanDuel: 51.6
- Stokastic’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: DraftKings 9.4% | FanDuel: 11.9%
- DFS Salary: DraftKings: $10,200 | FanDuel: $10,700
Once again, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is landing in our featured slot. The 24-year-old has made a major leap with his fantasy production and is averaging just over 50 fantasy points per appearance, which represents close to a 20% increase from last season. In 32 of his 46 games (70%), he has tallied at least 45 fantasy points. Tonight’s matchup is a favorable one in Houston. The Rockets have allowed 120.1 points per 100 possessions over their last 10 games, which is the fifth-worst defensive efficiency rating in the league during this stretch.
This matchup boasts a 230.5-point total, and with Aleksej Pokusevski, Luguentz Dort and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl still sidelined, Josh Giddey is a fine secondary option, as he has continued to make major strides offensively in his sophomore campaign. Jalen Williams, Kenrich Williams, Aaron Wiggins and Isaiah Joe are viable salary savers, depending on positional need.
But wait, there’s more! Houston is without the services of Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr., which leaves a major production void to be filled. Alperen Sengun continues to see his salary surge, and while he is a defensive liability, he has been a fantasy stalwart over the last fortnight.
KJ Martin Jr., Jabari Smith, Eric Gordon and Jae’Sean Tate are intriguing discount dandies on DraftKings, though on FanDuel only Tate is worthy of strong consideration. Be careful with youngster Daishen Nix, as he may be over-projected if he does not end up in the starting lineup.

Jayson Tatum: Boston Celtics-Brooklyn Nets
- Stokastic’s Preliminary Point Projections: DraftKings: 50.77 | FanDuel: 48.61
- Stokastic’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: DraftKings 1.4% | FanDuel: 4.6%
- DFS Salary: DraftKings: $11,100 | FanDuel: $10,800
Jayson Tatum looks like he will be underrepresented in tournaments tonight as a sub-5% play. This may tick up a little if Joel Embiid gets the night off, but Tatum is unlikely to crack double-digits with his popularity. In his last 10 games, the four-time All-Star has logged at least 50 fantasy points on eight occasions. During this stretch, he is averaging 40.5 minutes, 32.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.3 combined blocks and steals.
Robert Williams III and Jaylen Brown are available, with only Marcus Smart still out with an injury. That does slightly lower the expected production for Tatum and decreases the frequency of him achieving a high-upside outcome, but it does not take it off the table. Boston is nearly double-digit home favorites, but any blowout result will likely mean Tatum already has something approaching 50 fantasy points before he hits the bench.
On the other side of this matchup, Kyrie Irving is an intriguing option with Kevin Durant, Ben Simmons and T.J. Warren all out. Plus, he does not have to deal with Smart’s defense, which is a bonus. Nicolas Claxton is also performing well, upping his scoring with Durant out, and he sees a higher rebounding rate when he is not sharing the court with Simmons.
Additional NBA DFS Building Blocks Pick – Sports Betting Opportunities
Walker Kessler is an interesting option with a 0.5 total for his assist prop. He has at least one assist in 13 of his 19 starts (69%) as well as in eight of his last dozen games.
The NBA Bet Pro projections have Kessler slated for 1.2 assists and 24.4 minutes of action. This wager has an expected win rate of 62%, which gives it a 3% expected ROI relative to the odds at BetMGM. Work this wager into a parlay for a higher payout potential.

Sacramento Kings-San Antonio Spurs
Tonight marks the third meeting between Sacramento and San Antonio, and this game currently has a 243.5-point total and the Kings are 7.5-point road favorites. The Spurs have the worst defensive efficiency in the league over their last 10 games, allowing an absurd 126.5 points per 100 possessions. In the first two games of this series, these teams combined for 246.5 points on average.
Domantas Sabonis dealt with foul trouble and even picked up a technical on Monday in Minnesota. This led to a subpar performance but should also have the big man motivated tonight. Sabonis has been amazing this season, averaging 18.5 points, 12.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists, and he is almost a lock for a double-double. He also has six triple-doubles, which is behind only Nikola Jokic (16) and Luka Doncic (10).
De’Aaron Fox continues to be an excellent source of fantasy production with his ability to contribute points, rebound and assists. Most nights he is producing 40 or more fantasy points, and he should thrive in this matchup. We can also look to the plethora of wings, with Harrison Barnes, Kevin Huerter, Malik Monk and Keegan Murray being viable main-slate differentiators and secondary plays for the evening sub-slate.
Tre Jones and Jakob Poeltl are strong options on both FanDuel and DraftKings. Rookie Jeremy Sochan and Keldon Johnson stand out on DraftKings with more favorable salaries. Stay away from journeyman Stanley Johnson, who tends to be a fantasy tease, and his minutes are likely tenuous with both Josh Richardson and Romeo Langford expected to play tonight.
