The common narrative about Brooks Koepka is that he steps up his games for majors. He has won the U.S. Open and PGA Championship twice to go along with several other T5 finishes at PGA major championships. Koepka hasn’t appeared on TOUR since joining LIV Golf last year, but PGA DFS players haven’t forgotten about his past success. He’s expected to have the second highest ownership on this week’s Masters slate. It makes sense at Koepka’s price ($7,600) and his momentum coming off a win at LIV Golf Orlando.

2023 Masters DFS: Will Brooks Koepka Get Over Owned?
Koepka’s win is his second on the LIV Golf tour, making him the first two time winner in the organization’s short history. That would be enough to indicate Koepka is in strong form, but coupled with the public’s belief that he plays even strong er at majors, PGA DFS fans could be rostering him at a high clip.
Stokastic’s PGA DFS ownership projections have Brooks Koepka coming in as the second highest owned golfer on the Masters slate. That ownership makes sense from a value perspective. Koepka’s median projection of 56.8 fantasy points on DraftKings make him the top value play on the site. His 49.1 projection on FanDuel makes him the second best value behind just Rory McIlroy.
The Stokastic PGA model gives Koepka a Top 6 rate of 15%, which is excellent upside at his $7,600 price tag. There aren’t many other pivots in that price range that bring the same floor and ceiling that Koepka does. Corey Conners is right there with him, but he’ll be rostered at a similar rate.
Without strong pivots, it raises the question of how easy it is to get off of Brooks Koepka (or even Conners). Nevertheless, any lineup build using Koepka is going to need to get different elsewhere. Despite his high median projection and ceiling, Stokastic’s 26% ownership projection is giving Koepka the second worst leverage score on the Masters DFS slate.
Pivoting to Corey Conners or other players in that salary range could be fraught. Conners brings strong value but the worst overall leverage score in Stokastic’s PGA DFS projections, while Patrick Reed ($7,300) and Min Woo Lee ($7,600) are just below Koepka. PGA DFS can certainly roster some of these players, but should tread carefully before jamming so much value from the $7k range into their lineup constructions.
PGA DFS players should also keep up with Stokastic’s coverage of the Masters throughout the week and stay tuned for analysis to avoid the pitfalls of ownership projection and golfer narratives.
