The biggest question in NFL DFS tonight: Is Joe Burrow playing on Monday Night Football when the Cincinnati Bengals host the Los Angeles Rams?
The lingering calf injury that’s plagued Burrow since the preseason has still not gone away, with the Bengals quarterback admitting to “tweaking” his injury last week. Based on multiple reports across the industry, Burrow’s status is very uncertain heading into Monday Night Football.
Jake Browning is Burrow’s backup on the depth chart. The team also added free agent A.J. McCarron to the practice squad.
Is Joe Burrow Playing on Monday Night Football? Latest Injury News
The injury news update on Monday morning wasn’t much of an update at all. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported there’s nothing new yet on Burrow’s playing status. He is still listed as questionable and pushing to play, while the organization seems split on whether or not to push it.
However, according to multiple reports, including The Cincinnati Enquirer, Burrow is expected to play barring any setbacks.
Of course, the Bengals are in a desperate spot already. Cincinnati is 0-2 on the year, and the math gets ugly for teams falling to 0-3 when it comes to making the playoffs. Burrow threw for just 82 yards in Week 1 against the Browns and 222 yards in the Week 2 loss to the Ravens.
If Burrow doesn’t go, it’s up to Jake Browning. Browning replaced Burrow late in Week 1 but threw just one pass (incomplete). He showed huge potential in college during his sophomore year at Washington, finishing with 3,430 yards passing, 43 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. However, those touchdown numbers dropped to 19 his junior year and 16 his final season, along with 10 interceptions.
Backing up Browning would likely be McCarron. McCarron’s potential return to the NFL comes after a successful stint in the XFL, completing 68.8% of his passes and throwing 24 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in nine games. He last appeared in an NFL game in 2020 with the Houston Texans. His last start came with the Texans in 2019. McCarron previously spent four seasons with the Bengals to start his NFL career.
As things stand, Stokastic’s NFL DFS projections have Burrow just north of 18 points and 25% ownership.
