MLB Pick’em Predictions for PrizePicks MLB | Aug. 22

Yusei Kikuchi O/U 6.0 Strikeouts

Yusei Kikuchi will face off against the Baltimore Orioles for the fourth time this season. Give the advantage to the Orioles for that reason alone. Kikuchi stayed under this line in two of the three starts against the Orioles, including in his last start on Aug. 2. Facing off against one of the best offenses in the league twice in the last 30 days has all the signs pointing to Kikuchi struggling to punch hitters out.

Baltimore has a top-10 strikeout rate in August against lefties and has only struck out more than six times against a left-handed pitcher once this month. Kikuchi has been extremely solid for the Blue Jays, but this is a perfect fade spot.

Taijuan Walker O/U 95.5 Pitches Thrown

Taijuan Walker has been just what the Phillies needed in their starting rotation after they lost Zach Eflin to the Rays in the offseason. Walker is one win off 14 this season, which would put him in a tie with Braves superstar Spencer Strider and the Cubs’ Justin Steeler for the most in MLB.

This is the most important series for the Phillies as they take on the San Francisco Giants, with both teams battling for the top NL Wild Card spot. The Phillies took game one of the series in large part to an offensive explosion and Aaron Nola giving them seven innings. A fresh bullpen is perfect for Walker to stay under this prop for the 17th time in 24 starts this season. Walker hasn’t been exactly sharp as of late, and I don’t expect the Phillies to ride him until the wheels fall off in such an important game.

Justin Verlander O/U 96.5 Pitches Thrown

Justin Verlander is simply a workhorse. At the age of 40 years old, Verlander is still slinging like the best of them, with his 3.36 ERA this season. The Houston Astros find themselves in a tight AL West division race and need a quality outing out of Verlander due to the taxed bullpen.

Verlander is no stranger to throwing deep into games. He’s pitched into the seventh inning in six of 19 starts, including cashing this prop in 12 of those games. It’s been years since some of the Boston Red Sox hitters have seen last year’s AL Cy Young winner, which bodes well for Verlander’s backers.
