Top NFL DFS Stacks for Week 5 on DraftKings & FanDuel

Stacking in daily fantasy football refers to pairing a quarterback with one or more of his pass catchers to capture as much upside as possible in big-money NFL DFS tournaments on DraftKings and FanDuel. In this series, we will look through the Week 5 NFL DFS top stacks tool and see which team stackability ratings stand out above the rest.

On Sunday morning, we will add an update to this article looking at how the data has moved. As a general reminder, DFS players should be monitoring the NFL injury news through slate lock and before the afternoon games lock too, in case updates come in that open up better values you can late swap to.

First things first: below is a short legend overviewing the data points that are included throughout, all of which can be found on Stokastic’s best NFL DFS stacks page for DraftKings and FanDuel.

Top Stack: The probability that the QB + receiver combo will be the highest scoring of the week (averaged the probabilities for top-scoring with one receiver and two receivers together).

QB Own: Projected ownership of the starting quarterback for the given team.

Avg Sal: Average salary of skill position players weighted for projected ownership.

Top Value: Top stack % points per dollar of salary spent.

Rush %: How often the team is expected to rush on any given play during the game. A lower Rush % means the quarterback will be throwing more often!

Week 5 NFL DFS Top Team Stack: Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are implied for 27 points for their highly anticipated Week 5 road game against Matthew Stafford, Cooper KuppPuka Nacua and the Rams, with the total currently trading at 50.5 points, the second-highest on the slate behind KC/MIN. As we check out Stokastic’s Week 5 NFL DFS team stacks tool, we see the Eagles at number one in top stack probability, top value probability and overall rating on DraftKings. When we filter to FanDuel, Philadelphia is in the second spot in all three categories behind only Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Jalen Hurts has led the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 start. He’s logged 959 passing yards and five touchdowns (with three interceptions) while adding 40 carries for 134 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground. In the passing game, Hurts has continued to cultivate his sound connections with A.J. Brown (34.0% target share) and DeVonta Smith (24.0% target share), who are the two most natural stacking candidates with the QB, along with Dallas Goedert (17.0% target share) at tight end. As of Saturday, Hurts owns an 8.9% boom probability on DraftKings for this Sunday, with Brown at 11.3%, Smith at 3.6% and Goedert at 11.5%.

Top Stack Probability on DraftKings: 15.2%
Top Stack Probability on FanDuel: 12.9%
Top Value Probability on DraftKings: 9.5%
Top Value Probability on FanDuel: 10.3%
Expected Rush Percentage: 45.8%

Week 5 NFL DFS Top Team Stack: Kansas City Chiefs

This Chiefs/Vikings showdown figures to get a ton of attention from DFS players in Week 5 given the over/under of 53.5 and the stackability of both teams. If we check out ownership projections for the main slate, Travis Kelce, Justin Jefferson and Patrick Mahomes are all going to be very popular, with Kelce currently owning the highest projected ownership for the whole DraftKings player pool. On FanDuel, Jefferson is listed with a 24.5% ownership projection at time of writing, which puts him behind only Joe Mixon and Tyreek Hill on that site.

We will see plenty of people stacking Mahomes and Kelce together, and rookie wideout Rashee Rice (13.1% target share) is also gaining a little popularity as a much cheaper way to get exposure to this game. All in all, though, it’s been pretty tough to trust any of the Chiefs wide receivers regardless of the lower salaries, including Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney, given how much they have all struggled to assert themselves through the first four weeks of the year.

Top Stack Probability on DraftKings: 13.4%
Top Stack Probability on FanDuel: 19.5%
Top Value Probability on DraftKings: 8.5%
Top Value Probability on FanDuel: 10.7%
Expected Rush Percentage: 36.7%

Other Week 5 NFL DFS Team Stacks to Consider

While the top stack probabilities and overall ratings are useful in their own right, having additional data points like projected QB ownership, top value probabilities and expected rush percentages for every team included all on one page is handy when doing prep.

Ahead of NFL Week 5, here are a couple of other team stacks to consider for your NFL DFS lineups:

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins were unable to keep up their winning ways in Week 4, losing to a red-hot Josh Allen and the Bills on the road, but they are widely expected to bounce back with a win at home against the struggling Giants in Week 5. Current NFL odds show Miami favored by 11 with an implied total of 30 points, higher than every other team this week.

Week 4 aside, we have seen some surgical offensive displays from the Dolphins, who have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to game-breaking ability. Tua Tagovailoa has been steady at the helm, and Tyreek Hill (29.6% target share) has picked up right where he left off last season. Then there’s the talented Jaylen Waddle (15.9% target share), who has had a slow start by his standards, and a dangerous running back duo in Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane. Miami has come to be one of the most profitable teams to stack so far in 2023, and Week 5 could bring more of the same.

Top Stack Probability on DraftKings: 14.4%
Top Stack Probability on FanDuel:
7.5%
Top Value Probability on DraftKings:
7.2%
Top Value Probability on FanDuel: 6.6%
Expected Rush Percentage:
39.7%

Minnesota Vikings

A regular inclusion in this article so far this season, the Vikings are implied for 24 points at home against the Chiefs this Sunday. They did pick up the win in Week 4 at Carolina, but it wasn’t pretty, and Kirk Cousins in particular was not at his sharpest with a couple of interceptions. Justin Jefferson came up big with two touchdowns, and the Minnesota defense put the clamps down on Bryce Young in the 21-13 victory.

Here is an overview of some individual DraftKings boom probability and ownership projection data for the Vikings heading into Week 5:

Kirk Cousins: 4.9% Boom Probability / 6.8% Projected Ownership
Justin Jefferson:
15.8% Boom Probability / 19.0% Projected Ownership
T.J. Hockenson:
8.6% Boom Probability / 6.5% Projected Ownership
Jordan Addison:
1.0% Boom Probability / 1.9% Projected Ownership
K.J. Osborn:
1.0% Boom Probability / 3.1% Projected Ownership

For the time being, we find the Vikings in the top three in overall rating on DraftKings, but they’re a little further down the list on FanDuel (ninth).

Top Stack Probability on DraftKings: 14.7%
Top Stack Probability on FanDuel: 5.6%
Top Value Probability on DraftKings: 8.0%
Top Value Probability on FanDuel: 6.1%
Expected Rush Percentage:
35.9%

Notably, the Cincinnati Bengals (now expected to be without Tee Higgins) and Detroit Lions (likely to be without Amon-Ra St. Brown) are also grading out highly in overall rating on DraftKings and FanDuel for their respective matchups against the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers. Make sure to browse through the numbers for the entire slate to fully take advantage of the tool.

Be mindful that the data could change as more news is released and we get closer to kickoff. As usual, Stokastic will be tracking all slate-relevant injury updates and will be tweaking NFL player projections up until lock.

We should also remember that accurate player projections are just one piece of the NFL DFS puzzle and that other factors like projected ownership, roster construction and game theory should be considered when building lineups.
