Nino Niederreiter Fantasy Hockey News: What the Jets Trade Means Going Forward

The Nino Niederreiter fantasy hockey & DFS dynamic changed Saturday afternoon after it was announced that the veteran forward was being traded from the Nashville Predators to the Winnipeg Jets ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline.

The Jets traded a second-round pick in 2024 in order to acquire the 30-year-old, who they hope can help bolster their offense. Nino Niederreiter fantasy hockey owners will hope the change of scenery can give them a boost, as well.

Nino Niederreiter Trade: Fantasy Hockey Impact of Move

Niderreiter was signed by Nashville prior to last season and will have one year remaining with the Jets after this year concludes. He had 18 goals and 10 assists in 47 games with the Predators this season. Niederreiter gives the Jets a player who has proven throughout his 12-year NHL career that he can put the puck in the back of the net at an elite level.

He likely figures to play second/third-line minutes with the Jets and should be able to continue his goal-scoring prowess. This season, Niderreiter’s 1.16 goals-per-60 ranked second on the Predators (to Filip Forsberg) and 39th in the NHL.

Unfortunately for Niederreiter fantasy owners and Jets fans alike, he will not be making his team debut for the Sunday afternoon game against the New York Islanders, but will likely be available when the team takes on the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.

While Niederreiter’s ability to score makes him a potent option for the Jets, his numbers will probably not be getting a great boost just because he now finds himself with a contender. The Jets likely view the forward as a depth option, who can fill in with the top six if that group needs a spark at any point throughout the remainder of the season. He also gives the team another option with Cole Perfetti still working his way back from injury.

The Nino Niederreiter trade will give the Jets another weapon. But don’t expect this move to push the envelope too much for fantasy hockey & DFS purposes. Winnipeg will likely remain active on the trade market up until Friday’s deadline.
