Tonight features a small four-game NBA slate with loaded options at the point guard position, so choose wisely. This article features three boom candidates and one bust/fade option at every pricing tier as we narrow down the options of who to choose from. These plays below are driven by Stokastic’s NBA DFS Boom/Bust Tool. Let’s take a look at some of our best NBA DFS Picks for the main slate, prioritizing Luka Doncic and Keegan Murray.
Boom/Bust NBA DFS Picks & Projections Today
NBA DFS Today Boom: Luka Doncic: $12,000 DraftKings/$12,000 FanDuel
31.5% DraftKings Boom/20.4% FanDuel Boom
This small four-game slate is absolutely loaded at the point guard position. Six of the top eight salaries on DraftKings are point guard only eligible players, which is going to make for an interesting lineup build. Luka Doncic headlines the position with a ridiculous $12,000 price tag on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Doncic has shot the ball much better and scored more DraftKings points in each of his last three games to start the season. He has the highest boom percentage on DraftKings and the only player above 30%. FanDuel is a little different, but there is enough value to get Doncic in at dual eligibility.
After leading the league in usage rate last season, Luka Doncic has picked up right where he left off leading the league yet again with a 41.1% usage rate through three games. He had 30 field goal attempts in the Mavericks last game! Averaging 34.7 points per game, Doncic has really stepped his game up despite the Mavericks struggles. He is very expensive, but it is tough to deny the upside with such a high usage rate and skill set. The Mavericks are 2.5-point road favorites against the struggling Nets who have the second-worst defensive rating to start the season. Tough to fade Luka Doncic on this small slate.
NBA DFS Today Boom: Ivica Zubac: $6,500 DraftKings/$6,500 FanDuel
22.4% DraftKings Boom/24.8% FanDuel Boom
Another player who has the same price tag on both DraftKings and FanDuel is Clippers center Ivica Zubac. He has been the perfect boom or bust player as he has two games where he scored over 45 DraftKings points, while averaging 18.3 DraftKings points per game in his other two starts. Marcus Morris and Kawhi Leonard are out for this game, while Paul George is questionable with an illness. With most of the high-priced players coming at the guard position, getting to a mid-priced Zubac may be the best route to go in cash games for this small slate.
Despite losing by 14 points on Tuesday night against the Thunder, the Clippers will get a chance at redemption tonight as seven-point road favorites. When it comes to Zubac it is all about the playing time. This is a feast or famine spot for him as if he plays 35 minutes again, he should feast on this small Thunder frontcourt. However, if he plays in the mid-20’s in minutes due to being played off the floor for a small-ball lineup like his other two games, we will more than likely get a bust performance. Tough spot to judge, but he is projected for a modest 28.6 minutes in our Stokastic projections.

NBA DFS Today Boom: Keegan Murray: $5,500 DraftKings/$5,200 FanDuel
28.1% DraftKings Boom/36.7% FanDuel Boom
Keegan Murray is projected to be in the starting lineup for the Kings moving forward. Not sure what took so long, but glad he is finally in the starting lineup over KZ Okpala. The rookie of the year race is going to be a fun one to watch as there are some incredible options this season including Murray. In his two games played so far, Keegan Murray is averaging 17.5 points per game while shooting 54.2% from the field and 43.8% from downtown. Murray has the highest boom percentage on FanDuel by far and has the third-highest on DraftKings at his very nice salary on both sites.
Murray has carried over his sharp shooting from the preseason into the regular season. Even with a mid-teens usage rate, Keegan Murray is averaging over 25 DraftKings points per game. This game features the highest total on the slate at 236 points as the Kings are playing at the fourth-fastest pace to start the season. Our Stokastic projections have Murray projected for 33.1 minutes tonight and he is popping as the best value play on both sites. Murray played 38 minutes last game and if he plays anywhere near that total tonight, he is going to break the slate at this salary in such a great fantasy environment.
NBA DFS Today Bust: Kyrie Irving: $9,600 DraftKings/$9,400 FanDuel
57.0% DraftKings Bust/57.4% FanDuel Bust
We already brought up Doncic but rounding out the other five high-priced point guard options are Ja Morant, Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and De’Aaron Fox. One of these point guards doesn’t seem to fit or at least we haven’t seen it quite yet. That would be Irving. Morant, Curry, and Fox are all averaging over 30 points per game while Curry leads the league with five made 3-pointers per game. Gilgeous-Alexander is playing without Josh Giddey, which catapults his ceiling. Irving may play a ton of minutes, but all five of these other point guards look better tonight.
In our Stokastic projections, Irving has the worst value on DraftKings of any player priced over $5,000. Ben Simmons did tweak his back last night, but he is not on the injury report going into tonight. Playing alongside a healthy Simmons and Kevin Durant limits the upside of Irving at this salary. After averaging 1.34 DraftKings points per minute in his last three seasons with the Nets, Irving has only averaged 1.16 through four games this season. This all comes down to the other point guards simply being better options. Take your chances elsewhere at this loaded position.
