How to Play at Jock MKT
To begin, enter the NBA Daily Market when the Initial Public Offering (IPO) phase is under way. Leading up until the start of the first game, bid up on players you are interested in acquiring on the open market. Is there a player who you consider a favorite to finish at the top of the rankings? Invest as much or as little as you want in their fantasy performance, with shares beginning at $1 and ranging all the way up to $25. See potential injury news that could open up an opportunity for another player to acquire fantasy points? Make speculative bids for shares of the back-up, hoping for that news to break after the IPO phase is complete.
The next part of the game occurs during live trading. Unlike in regular NBA DFS where your plays are locked in, you can buy and sell shares of players while the games are happening based on their production and where you could see them finishing amongst the field. Track as current points, projected points, and live price for each player is updated in real time, allowing you to track the action and invest in an instant to account for news. Trading can be done all the way up until the final buzzer of the night’s final game.
At the end of the games, each player share is paid out based on their final rankings of fantasy points amongst the field. If the shares you own are worth more than what you paid, you win money. It’s as simple as that! For more information, go to jockmkt.com.

Strategy Session: Shorthanded Rosters
We get back to a full slate of NBA basketball tonight, with 11 games on the calendar. But do note that the first contest of the night, the Pistons – Hornets at 7:00 p.m. EST, will not be included in this Jock MKT slate. The contest will close at 7:30 EST, and we will have 10 games to attack. Even though this will be most of these clubs’ first game back from the All-Star break, many of these teams will be without key players on Thursday night. The first notable short-handed team to tip off is the Nets. They will be without Kevin Durant (hamstring) for the 10th straight game, Blake Griffin (injury management) will not be available to make his Brooklyn debut, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (doubtful, knee) isn’t expected to play, and Jeff Green (shoulder) is also questionable. With Durant and Luwawu-Cabarrot missing, Bruce Brown automatically gains appeal as a target. In these last two with both forwards inactive, Brown has supplied 33 Jock points per game and has beaten his Jock projection in four of his past six.
The next depleted roster that is producing many strong options tonight is the Raptors. They played their final two games before the layoff, with all of Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, O.G. Anunoby, Patrick McCaw and Malachi Flynn watching from home due to the NBA’s health-and-safety protocols, and they find themselves in the same exact situation tonight. Toronto used a tight, eight-man rotation against the Celtics last Thursday, and they shouldn’t go any deeper into their bench in a very competitive setting tonight against the Hawks (Atlanta -1.5). This makes all of their key players viable spends, most notably Kyle Lowry, Chris Boucher and Norman Powell.
Next down the line is the Heat, who will be without the services of Bam Adebayo for the second straight game. All of Jimmy Butler’s rates see increases without his center this season, absolutely bringing him into the high-end spend conversation tonight, but Kelly Olynyk is my favorite play from Miami. With Adebayo absent last Thursday night, Olynyk slid over to center and went off for 43 Jock points against the Pelicans. Despite the average matchup with Nikola Vucevic and the Magic this evening, Olynyk still has a great chance of exceeding his Jock projection.
The 76ers are also dealing with COVID firsthand. Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons were both forced to miss Sunday’s All-Star game because their barber tested positive for the virus, and the two starters will remain away from their team on Thursday. This creates a huge opportunity for all of the remaining Sixers, particularly Seth Curry (below), Tobias Harris and Dwight Howard. Even though Jock MKT was quick to adjust, ranking him 31st on the slate, I still believe Howard has a strong chance of providing value tonight. This Bulls defense he is going against is yielding the fourth-most points in the paint per game, and their starting center, Wendell Carter, ranks 80th of 83 qualifying centers in real defensive plus/minus.
The Rockets are the last short-handed team worth addressing. Christian Wood (ankle), Danuel House (knee) and David Nwaba (wrist) have all been confirmed out, while Eric Gordon (knee) is questionable. This boosts the stock of both Victor Oladipo and John Wall (below).
My JOCK MKT NBA Picks for Tonight:
John Wall
Wall is the healthiest he has been in years. In the final two before the All-Star break, he topped 40 minutes in each start and generated 39.9 Jock points per game. Now coming off eight days of rest, Wall should be fresh and ready to destroy the Kings tonight. Sacramento’s defense has easily been the worst unit this season, ranking dead last in both efficiency and rating, and Wall is already averaging 42 Jock points against them this year, in a pair of meetings.
Wall should post one of his biggest stat lines of the season tonight, and while I love him either way, his value could receive a notable boost if Gordon is unable to play. When Gordon, Wood, James Harden, DeMarcus Cousins, Nwaba and House have been off the floor this season, Wall has led the Rockets with an absurd 39.3% usage rate. Given that this Houston – Sacramento matchup doesn’t start until 10:00 p.m. EST, we most likely won’t have word on Gordon before the contest closes. As such, I highly recommended grabbing some shares of Wall early because his price is going to increase fast in the trading market if Gordon ends up being ruled out close to tip-off.
Norman Powell
With the Raptors’ extremely understaffed in their last two, Powell has averaged 38.6 Jock points in 37.4 minutes per game. He has surpassed his Jock projection in seven of his past eight and should easily accomplish this feat again tonight, with Toronto remaining without three of their starters against the Hawks.
Powell posts a team-high 29.6% usage rate sans VanVleet, Siakam, Anunoby, McCaw and Flynn this season, and Atlanta ranks 24th in defensive rating across their last 10.
Seth Curry
Tonight, Curry should move over to point guard in place of Simmons and amass a big role against the Bulls. Chicago is 19th in efficiency, and Curry’s usage has seen a 5.1% boost with Embiid and Simmons off the floor this year.
Furthermore, in the past three games Simmons has been inactive for, Curry has played 36.3 minutes per game. This is nearly 7 more minutes than his average for 2020-21. Both his ranking and Jock projection are too low for his expected workload, and Curry is a low-risk, high-reward option for this huge slate, which makes for a great Jock MKT NBA play.
