NBA DFS Boom: Joel Embiid: $11,700 DraftKings/$11,800 FanDuel

30.8% DraftKings Boom/33.5% FanDuel Boom

Joel Embiid has seen a rising salary over the last week, but it is very deserving. Even with James Harden back in the lineup, Embiid continues to be the best big man in the game. He is averaging a league- and career-high 33.4 points per game while shooting 53.5% from the field. Embiid is coming off of another dominating performance last game, putting up 53 points and 12 rebounds and making a season-high 20 field goal attempts. In Stokastic’s Boom/Bust Tool, Embiid has by far the highest boom percentage on FanDuel and the fourth highest on DraftKings, so don’t be intimidated by the rising price tag.

Embiid has been taking off recently and will get another juicy matchup against the Kings, who are allowing 52.6 points per game in the paint this season, which ranks as the sixth highest in the league. The Kings are just outside the top 10 in fouls per game, but that will be put to the test, as Embiid is averaging a ridiculous 10.1 made free throws and 11.8 free-throw attempts per game. He has scored 30 or more points in nine of his last 10 games while averaging 37.9 points per game. Embiid has the highest fantasy score in Stokastic’s projections tonight and is easily the top pay-up option on the slate.

NBA DFS Boom: Chris Paul: $6,200 DraftKings/$7,200 FanDuel

40.2% DraftKings Boom/21.0% FanDuel Boom

It has been a relatively tough season for Chris Paul. He has only played in 13 games this season, and his production has been lacking. Paul is shooting a career-low 37.7% from the field while averaging 9.9 points and 8.9 assists per game. However, he will get the benefit of playing without Devin Booker, who is out due to a hamstring injury. In eight games without Booker last season, Paul saw his usage increase by nearly 2 percentage points. That is not a lot, but it should be enough in this matchup against the Rockets, who rank 28th in defensive rating while allowing 116.2 points per game.

It won’t take much for Paul to pay off this salary on DraftKings, where he is $1,000 cheaper and has the second-highest boom percentage on the slate. This game does have the lowest total on the slate at 224.5 points, but the Suns are still 6-point favorites and implied for 115.25 points. The Suns make up the top three spots in Stokastic’s last ownership run on DraftKings, but Paul is coming in as the highest-owned player on the slate. Not only is Booker out, but so is Cameron Johnson. There should be more than enough opportunity for Paul to get back on the right track tonight in a great matchup.

NBA DFS Bust: Jayson Tatum: $11,000 DraftKings/$10,600 FanDuel

40.0% DraftKings Bust/41.8% FanDuel Bust

The fade on Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum has gone so well that it makes sense to run it back again. His salary has stayed the same on FanDuel but came down $100 on DraftKings. Tatum’s bust percentage has also dropped, but that is mainly due to the smaller slate size. There are five players who are priced above $10,000 on both sites, and Tatum is arguably the worst play among them all. Over the last three games, Tatum is averaging under 40 DraftKings points per game while shooting just 36.7% from the field and 28% from behind the arc. It is hard to justify paying this salary for that type of production.

The Celtics have lost back-to-back road games against the Warriors and Clippers and will now test their luck against the Lakers, who have won four of their last five home games. This game does have a slate-high 234.5 total, as the Lakers are playing at the fastest pace in the league (103.1) entering tonight. The Lakers have still been solid defensively this season, and Tatum is going through a cold streak shooting the ball. He looks like a little bit better of a play on FanDuel, but this is still a spot where fading Tatum and using that salary for other pay-up options makes the most sense.
