2023 Wells Fargo Championship DFS Picks & Core Plays: Cameron Young’s Rise Continues

Last week’s core plays had a great showing, with three out of four finishing inside the top 25 and two finishing in the top 10. This week, the PGA Tour heads to the Wells Fargo Championship, which boasts a star-studded field and a challenging course setup. Quail Hollow, measuring over 7,500 yards as a par 71, presents a difficult test to even the best golfers, with tree-lined fairways and numerous hazards. Let’s get into some the best Wells Fargo Championship DFS picks.

Top DFS Picks for 2023 Wells Fargo Championship

Cameron Young – $8,700

Cameron Young is 16th in the Official World Golf Rankings and has had a remarkable rise since his PGA Tour debut last season. He is one of the longest hitters on the tour, and in his entire career, he has gained strokes off the tee in all but one tournament. He has made 15 cuts in a row since July of last year, with nine of those being top-23 finishes.

Young finished in second place in this event last year but at a different course in TPC Potomac. However, his skillset should translate well to Quail Hollow, making him an excellent value at the top of the $8,000 range on DraftKings.

Tyrrell Hatton – $8,500

Tyrrell Hatton has had a great start to his 2023 campaign, with three top-6 finishes in seven starts. His driver has been key to his success this year, ranking seventh in strokes gained off the tee and second in good drives gained in this field over the last 24 rounds. At a course with narrow fairways and numerous hazards, his driver will be an asset yet again.

Hatton also ranks inside the top 30 in both birdie-or-better percentage and bogey avoidance in the same time frame. He has a history of performing well on tough layouts, with his lone win on tour coming at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which features a long and challenging golf course similar to Quail Hollow. He also finished in second place at THE PLAYERS this year, another difficult course with numerous hazards.

Taylor Moore – $7,600

Taylor Moore is starting 2023 very well, with five top-15 finishes, including a win at the Valspar in March. He ranks 18th in this stacked field in strokes gained off the tee over the last 24 rounds and top 30 in both birdie-or-better percentage and bogey avoidance over the last 36 rounds, making him an excellent course fit.

Moore has made eight of his last nine cuts, providing consistency for his price range, and he is one of the best plays in the $7,000 range.

GPP Flier – Byeong Hun An – $7,100

Byeong Hun An has a perfect record of 9-for-9 in cuts made. His ball striking has never been in question, as he has been an above-average tee-to-green player his entire career. The issue has always been with his putter — historically he has been one of the worst putters on tour. However, his recent performances indicate that his hard work on his putting is paying off, as he gained strokes putting in six of his last seven starts.

An ranks seventh on tour in driving distance, which should bode well for his chances this week. As a long hitter with potential and improved putting skills, he is worth considering in GPPs at single-digit ownership.
