NBA DFS Value and Advice | April 18

Atlanta Hawks vs. Boston Celtics

The Atlanta Hawks have a tough matchup, but we can get their players at a discount for that reason. At $9,000, Trae Young is the most expensive Hawk on DraftKings. Ownership-wise, John Collins leads the way at 26 percent because of his $4,600 price tag. I have no true priorities for this game, but there are plenty of secondary options since it’s only a three-game slate.

The Boston Celtics look much more appealing with Jaylen Brown, Derrick White and Jayson Tatum all pulling 30 to 40 percent ownership with 28 to 40 percent chances of optimalty. Marcus Smart, Al Horford, Malcolm Brogdon and Robert Williams III are all viable secondary options as well.

New York Knicks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

There isn’t much to like from the New York Knicks. Jalen Brunson, Isaiah Hartenstein and Julius Randle are the only players with an optimality percentage north of 10 percent on DraftKings. Brunson and Randle are projected to be slightly under-owned, while Hartenstein is projected to be slightly over-owned.

The Cleveland Cavaliers look better. Five of their players have double-digit chances of making it into the optimal lineup and Evan Mobley, Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen have optimality percentages of at least 30 percent. Donovan Mitchell offers a massive ceiling but is projected to be a bit over-owned.

Isaac Okoro is only projected for seven percent ownership at $3,700, which is interesting because the Knicks will likely keep forcing him to play a larger offensive role than the Cavaliers would like. On one hand, he’s ins’t particularly likely to succeed, which is why the Knicks will do it. On the other hand, he’s likely to have more opportunities than he typically would have had during the regular season.

Los Angeles Clippers vs. Phoenix Suns

Both teams are similar to the Hawks because there are a lot of good plays but no true priorities. Norman Powell is projected to be the most under-owned player on the Los Angeles Clippers on DraftKings at just 15 percent ownership with a 26 percent chance of optimality. He only played 23 minutes off the bench last game, but there is a path to more minutes if he starts off well enough. He also offers shooting guard and small forward eligibility.

Russell Westbrook and Eric Gordon are projected to be slightly under-owned as well. Kawhi Leonard and Terance Mann are both secondary options, while Ivica Zubac projects as the most popular player — and the most over-owned — from the Clippers.

All five of the Phoenix Suns’ starters project between 18 percent and 27 percent ownership. Ayton is projected to be the most under-owned with a 35 percent chance of optimality at just 24 percent ownership, but it’s worth noting that he has averaged just 0.96 DraftKings points per minute in the nine games he has played with Kevin Durant this season.
