NBA Prop of the Day: Nikola Jokic | April 1

Today is opening day in Major League Baseball, but that doesn’t mean the NBA suddenly takes a back seat. There is a manageable seven-game slate tonight on the hardwood, including several marquee matchups amongst the league’s best teams. There is a lot to break down on the betting side of things, and a few spots stand out as potential wagers tonight.

NBA Prop Bet: Nikola Jokic Under 43.5 Pts + Reb + Asts (-115) — PointsBet

The biggest game on the slate is out west where the Nuggets travel to Los Angeles to take on the Clippers. Vegas has this spread at a competitive 1.5 points favoring the Nuggets, but clearly the game is expected to stay close. The total is a reasonable 221, which doesn’t stand out much amongst the other games in terms of expected pace. Things may change as news breaks throughout the day, but for now Nikola Jokic‘s combined stats prop stands out. The line on combined points, rebounds and assists is 43.5, and despite his impressive all-around game, the under is more appealing.

Jokic may be the MVP frontrunner this season. He is a unique, do-it-all center who is live for a triple-double anytime he takes the floor, which is scary when trying to go under on a combined-stats prop. However, this is a very tough matchup at the Clippers, and they do a great job at limiting the peripheral statistics on any given night.

The Clippers allow just the second-fewest rebounds to opponents per game, and although Denver is a great rebounding team, that should impact the number of boards up for grabs. Furthermore, the Clippers limit assists on made baskets, ranking fifth in assists allowed per game. This could limit Jokic’s ability to distribute, which further puts pressure on him to put up a ton of points to clear this prop.

There is no doubt Jokic has the quality and upside to go nuts any time he takes the floor, but this is one of the worst matchups he will see. The Clippers should be more than competitive in the game, and although that could push his minutes to the upper-30s, Jokic’s production could be mitigated across the board.

OddsShopper shows there are a handful of lines under 42.5 at -110 out there, but there was also an under 43.5 at -115 available. Finding those small edges can make all the difference, and every points counts when shorting a player as good as Jokic. The Clippers should do enough to keep Jokic’s stat line in check.
