Yesterday’s NBA Player Props Recap

It has been a roller coaster ride the past few days with NBA betting props. After sweeping the board on Wednesday, yesterday failed to produce a single winner. A tip of the cap goes to Daniel Theis for completely bucking the trends on playing time, grabbing seven rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Mikal Bridges also let us down, failing to record a block despite playing 45 minutes. Finally, Wendell Carter was a late scratch yesterday with a minor injury, leaving the points prop null and void. Let’s look to rebound from an 0-2-1 Thursday with some Friday winners.

NBA Betting Prediction: NBA Player Props | April 23

Grayson Allen Under 12.5 Points

Jaren Jackson Jr. finally made his season debut for the Grizzlies on Wednesday night. His return means that Memphis is almost completely healthy as the NBA betting season hits the stretch run. Outside of Jonas Valanciunas, who will remain sidelined with a concussion this evening, the Grizzlies’ injury report is empty. With that being the case, here’s hoping Taylor Jenkins does the right thing and cuts down Allen’s playing time.

Yes, Allen has had some big performances in recent weeks. And no, they are not sustainable. Sorry to burst the bubbles of any Allen truthers out there, but unless he gets hot shooting the ball, the only avenues for him to exceed tonight’s NBA betting line of 12.5 points on a given night are to play a ton of minutes or take a ton of shots. Allen’s most recent high-scoring game saw both of those objectives come to fruition. He played 43 minutes and took 20 shots in Monday’s game against the Nuggets. He hit eight of them, including a trio of 3-pointers to score 24 points. Two nights later, he played just 26 minutes and scored 6 points on 1-for-4 shooting.

Allen has been forced into big minutes as Jenkins has managed the Grizzlies rotation around various injuries this season. That is no longer an issue in tonight’s game. De’Anthony Melton is far more deserving of playing time than Allen. After he saw just 15 minutes on Wednesday, hopefully Jenkins was keeping him fresh for tonight’s contest against the Trail Blazers. More minutes for Melton means fewer for Allen and a play on the under for 12.5 total points.

Aleksej Pokusevski Over 2.5 Assists

Aleksej Pokusevski NBA betting NBA prediction

Unlike the Grizzlies’ situation described above, the Thunder injury report remains full of names. While Pokusevski spent some time on there himself last week, he is back in action and figures to be in line for high minutes this evening. The Awesemo NBA Betting Player Props Tool likes the value in playing over 2.5 total assists for Pokusevski tonight.

Aleksej Pokusevski NBA betting picks

Since returning from injury, Pokusevski has played in three games. Wednesday’s contest has to be somewhat discounted, as he was only on the floor for a total of five minutes. This past Sunday and Monday, however, Pokusevski recorded five assists in each game while playing 28 and 30 minutes, respectively. He is averaging 2.1 dimes per contest on the season, with a minutes average of 23.3. With Luguentz Dort questionable for tonight’s game, Pokusevski should be closer to 30 minutes than his season average. The Thunder also take on a Wizards team that ranks 28th in scoring defense. More points mean more opportunities for assists.

Andrew Wiggins Under 2.5 Made 3-Pointers

Andrew Wiggins NBA betting picks NBA player props NBA prediction

Discrepancies in the line for Wiggins’ total made 3-pointers set up an excellent opportunity to nail a winner. Although hefty -188 juice is required on the under 2.5 at FanDuel Sportsbook, it’s a bet worth making considering that the rest of the market has already moved down by one full 3-pointer.

Wiggins’ season numbers also support a wager. He has only exceeded 2.5 made triples once in the last nine games. On the season, he is shooting just 37.9% from beyond the arc. In the Warriors’ most recent game on Wednesday, he was an abysmal 0-for-7 from downtown. On top of all that, tonight’s opponent, the Nuggets, is tied for ninth in 3-point shooting defense this season. They also boast a top-10 scoring defense.
