Lauri Markkanen Over 12.5 Points

Markkanen is in a horrible shooting slump, as he connects on just 30.5% of his shot attempts and 23.3% from beyond the arc. He is a career 36.5% shooter from downtown, and he is coming off a career-best 48% from the field and 40.2% (2.2 3’s a game) from long distance. He has a usage percentage of 19.6% and has scored in double figures in four of the five games, including at least 12 points on three occasions. Markkanen has an outstanding matchup against a Lakers team that ranks last in scoring defense and 24th in defensive rating. Los Angeles allows opposing power forwards to put up nearly 20 points on 44.5% shooting from the field. Markkanen is projected for 16.45 points tonight. The over has a 78.5% chance of hitting and an expected ROI of 40%.

Ivica Zubac Over 9.5 Points & Over 6.5 Rebounds

Zubac is playing some of the best basketball of his career. He is averaging 10 points on 61.5% shooting from the field, and he attempts nearly four free throws a game. He has scored in double figures in three of four games this season, including 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists against the Trail Blazers on Monday. Zubac has seen an average of 24.5 minutes over the last two games and has a usage rate of 16.1% for the season. Portland allows 22.8 points to centers on 62.1% shooting from the field and 12.8 rebounds per game. They also allow 45.5 points in the paint.

Awesemo projects Zubac for 12.59 points. The over has a 71% chance of occurring and an ROI of 38%. He is also projected for 9.9 rebounds. The over has an 88% of hitting and an expected ROI of 54%.

James Harden Over 6.5 Rebounds

Harden and the Nets have gotten off to a rocky start in 2021-22. While Harden is struggling on the offensive end, with a 44.2% effective field goal percentage, he still does a good job distributing and rebounding. He is grabbing 10.4% of all available rebounds and 16.4% of those on the defensive end, both of which are above his career average. Moreover, Harden has collected at least six rebounds in all five games and has had seven or more on four occasions.

Harden should be able to hit the boards against Indiana, which will be without starting point guard Malcolm Brogdon and possibly Kelan Martin and Caris LeVert. The Pacers have allowed opposing backcourts to grab a league-high 16.4 rebounds. Harden is projected for 8.44 rebounds tonight. Awesemo gives the over a 74% chance of hitting and an expected ROI of 31%.

Cleveland +8

The Cavaliers are 3-2 on the season, with impressive wins against Atlanta, Denver and the Clippers; the latter two came during their current five-game road trip. Cleveland is a well-rounded team, with seven players in double figures, led by Colin Sexton (20.4 points per game). The Cavaliers shoot the ball well (46.2%), get to the free-throw line often and defend decently well. Moreover, the Lakers are dealing with several injuries to key players — LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Rajon Rondo — and they are still developing chemistry with several newcomers on the roster. Plus, they have been a disaster on the defensive end. The spread of the game has the Lakers favored by 8 points. Awesemo lists the expected spread to be Cleveland +6 and gives the Cavaliers a 56% chance to cover. The expected ROI is 7%.
