Honda Classic PGA Predictions & Expert Golf Betting Picks

In this weekly article, Awesemo’s golf experts will give their favorite PGA betting picks, odds and predictions of the week for the 2022 Honda Classic.

Ben Rasa’s Pick: Alex Noren

Outright: 40-1 (DraftKings)

The Honda Classic certainly can produce unknown or first-time winners, so a guy like Alex Noren could break through if everything connects. Noren is a prolific winner in Europe and has had plenty of close calls on tour over the years. He has gained strokes on the approach in four straight events and found the weekend in three straight, so the form is there. Add in that he has experience at the Honda, including a third-place finish in 2018, and there is a case for an interesting outright pick in the betting markets. At 40-1, I am willing to put Noren on the outright card hoping to get the irons and putter firing on the same week .

Jason Rouslin’s Pick: Keith Mitchell Outright & Each-Way

Outright: 50-1 | Top 5: 10-1 | Top 10: 5-1

While this number varies from book to book (stressing the importance of shopping odds), Keith Mitchell’s ability to win the event does not change. He has played superbly all season and has been rumored to be taking on the DECADE approach to the game. For the true golf nerds, DECADE uses advanced analytics to game plan how to attack a golf course. Mitchell has used that to great consistency this year, missing just one cut and coming in the top 12 in his three other events while finishing top 10 twice. He has won here before — his breakthrough win a few years back — and seems to be in the type of form to get it done again. Mitchell is great value at anything 40-1 and above, again stressing the importance of shopping the lines.

Geoff Ulrich’s Pick: Louis Oosthuizen & Sung Kang

Oosthuizen Outright: 20-1 (FanDuel)

Kang Top 20: 7-1 (DraftKings)

The Honda Classic and PGA National make for one of the toughest event/venue combos of the year and last year played nearly 2 strokes over par. Past winners at this venue include Geoff Ogilvy, Padraig Harrington and Adam Scott, who were all great British Open and U.S. Open players. Nobody has been more consistent at those two events over the last five years than Louis Oosthuizen, who enters this week well overdue for a win of any kind. He gained strokes throughout the bag in his last outing at the Phoenix (14th) and has the kind of form that will allow him to outlast a weaker field. At +2000 or better, I am fine giving him a run this week.

A quick shoutout as well to Sung Kang, who really stepped up in his last outing and gained 4.7 strokes on approach to finish 26th at the Phoenix. Kang has been consistent in the other areas of his game, so an improvement in his ball striking could see him go for bigger finishes soon. He has solid experience playing PGA National (10th in 2016), making the +700 odds on a top-20 look very appealing.

Eric Lindquist’s Pick: Brooks Koepka

Outright: 20-1 (DraftKings)

Let’s start with this: I have never bet on Brooks Koepka to win a golf tournament in my entire life, which sounds like a mistake considering his eight PGA Tour wins and four major championships make him one of the most decorated golfers alive. But the odds are normally too short — and his desire to compete in tournaments he does not start off strongly in too frequent — which leads to a sort of volatility that is hard to stomach on a week-to-week basis. Still, with an outright number north of far less accomplished golfers, this feels like a no-brainer add to the card. Plus, he has pronounced Bermuda splits, a second-place finish here in 2019 and a top-three finish in his past three weeks (albeit sandwiched between two missed cuts). In other words, if Koepka can just get in the mix, there is a very good chance he can pay dividends in the outright market this week.
