Food City Dirt Race NASCAR Betting Picks
Food City Dirt Race Favorites
As we stand on the cusp of unfamiliar territory for the Cup Series, the names you would expect to be at the top of the board are shining bright. Dirt-track aficionado Kyle Larson rides into this weekend as the heavy favorite at +230. Larson carries a resume a city-block long dictating his dirt-track exploits with victories in the Chili Bowl, 2016 Eldora race, and sweeping nearly every Sprint car race last season when he went on hiatus from NASCAR. Last Friday evening Larson finished second in his Super Late Model Race. Finally, Larson will get added seat time in the Truck race heat qualifiers and main race on Saturday.
Following Larson comes Christopher Bell at +500, another Eldora Trucks winner as well as multiple-time Chili Bowl champion. Third in the outright odds may be a surprise with Austin Dillon at +800. Dillon also has an Eldora Trophy in his cabinet and won his feature race in the 604 Late Model event in the Bristol Dirt Nationals. Coming in behind Dillon is another Eldora winner, Chase Briscoe, at +1100. Following another finish in the 20s at Atlanta, seeing Briscoe return back to a dirt track might be what he needs to get his rookie season corrected.

Finding a Number You Like
History on dirt tracks is baked heavily into these odds. You can scale down the board and find dirt-ringers like Chris Windom, Shane Golobic and Stewart Friesen, all with better outright odds than William Byron (+6600). While history with this type of racing is going to factor in heavily into who actually wins, I can’t discount equipment either. This is still the 750-horsepower package that favors the bigger teams with bigger budgets.
If my winner is going to need a combination of talent, equipment and probably some luck, I’m not moving off of Larson. However, that slim number leaves much to be desired. This being said, I did find a way to still play Larson outright and get a better payday. I will have more on that later on.
Sunday’s Top-Five Bets
These are some numbers you are going to need to track once the cars actually turn laps on Friday and Saturday. There is some value to be plucked on DraftKings Sportsbook. However, it comes from these ringers in questionable equipment. For example, Shane Golobic has the reigns of the No. 78 this week for B.J. McLeod/Matt Tifft. Is Golobic a better dirt-track racer than half of the Cup field? Most likely, but where does his equipment rank versus the field, bottom sixth? Furthermore, just how much money is Live Fast actually investing in a one-off race like this? For what it’s worth, this car is currently unsponsored.
This all culminates in me saying, Golobic could be a great value for a top-five at +650. However, I think he’s going to need a string of things to happen in order for him to bring home that type of finish. The same goes for Chris Windom at +550 driving the No. 15 for Rick Ware Racing. I love the fact that Windom was able to bring on NOS Energy as the primary sponsor. Yet, once again, the No. 15 is usually the worst-performing RWR car of the lot. Just what kind of extra performance is Windom going to milk out of this car?
If you do want an early number to tail, former Eldora winner Bubba Wallace is +375 for a top-five. We can question talent all we want, but we know for sure Wallace has the equipment advantage that the rest of these ringers don’t have.

This week’s parlay involves one driver from two races. Larson is participating in both the Trucks and Cup dirt races this weekend. If you bet him in a NASCAR picks parlay to sweep this weekend’s events, you get +775 odds paying $218.75 on a $25.00 bet.
