Golf Betting Preview: The 2021 Tokyo Olympics
Men
Jon Rahm has been on a brilliant run of form as of late and is playing for is home country of Spain. He is the overwhelming favorite in the event and has some of the shortest odds to win in some time, coming in at 4.5-1. A limited field helps to contribute to such short odds.
Collin Morikawa will look to do something no golfer has ever done: Win a British Open and a gold medal in the same year. Other American favorites like Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau will also be making the trip. In all, 19 of the world’s top 50 male golfers will be teeing it up, including home favorite and Masters Champion Hideki Matsuyama.
Rory McIlroy will be one of those golfers, but his feelings and emotions may not be as high as the others competing:

Much has already been made about the importance that this week brings to golfers like Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im. Any Olympic medal this week for them would be career altering, as both of them are still mandated by South Korea to complete two years of military service by the age of 28. Kim, who is 26, will have this year and this year only to earn his. Im, 24, will have one more chance three years from now in Paris when he will be 27. In one of the more bizarre spots this week, Rory Sabbatini, from Slovakia via South Africa, is the one participant eligible from that country, thus giving him a spot in the field.
Women
Nelly Korda is on a spectacular run of golf, including two wins in each of her last two starts, one of them being the first major of her career. She leads a stellar field of golfers, including her sister Jessica Korda, Danielle Kang and Lexi Thompson. Many of the world’s best have made the trip to Tokyo to compete for their country. Inbee Park and Lydia Ko will look to be the first-ever two-time medalists, as they won gold and silver in the 2016 games.
The Course: Kasumigaseki Country Club
Built all the way back in the 1920s and then redesigned by Tom Fazio five years ago. It has all bentgrass greens and is a par 71 measuring roughly 7,400 yards. Much like the course used for the Zozo Championship, it is perfectly manicured and very well maintained. With narrow tree-lined fairways with shaped holes, it should set up for a great venue. PGA Odds and Expert Golf Betting Picks: The 2021 Tokyo Olympics
Favorite: Justin Thomas Outright — 14-1
Having spent a lot of time working on his putter recently, Thomas is finally starting to see some improvement in that category. Last week he was slightly worse than field average in terms of putts per green in regulation, at 1.69. That could have a little something to do with how far he was away from the hole. He hit 69.44% of his greens, and though he has not been in his top form for quite a bit, Thomas tends to excel in no-cut events and in Asian events, with four of his wins coming on the continent. Whether it is the no-cut, go-for-broke style or just pure coincidence, at 14-1 to with only 60 golfers in the field, Thomas presents solid value.
Value: Sungjae Im Outright — 40-1
In his brief career on the PGA Tour Im has shown that when he gets on a run the train stays on the tracks for quite a while. On the other hand, when it comes off, it can stay off for a long time. That was showcased by the five missed cuts in eight appearances a few months back. After a break in the action about a month ago, he is on a run of four straight made cuts, including a top-10.
Having taken the week off last week, Im has made his way over to Tokyo much earlier than his competitors. He has good form coming in, and there is no one with more motivation in the field except for maybe Si Woo Kim. Be sure to check Im’s silver and bronze odds as well when they are released.
Deep Shot: Henrik Norlander Outright — 300-1
Priced among some of the worst players in the field, Norlander has endured a good run of form. He has made five straight cuts on the PGA Tour, with three top-30s and a top-five two weeks ago at the John Deere Classic. While he will not win, Norlander could certainly be a dark horse for a medal. It seems unlikely that there will be a crazy winner this week given how strong the top of the field is. Given his recent form and structure of the tournament, Norlander seems a bit mispriced at these levels.
Double Winner Parlay: Jon Rahm and Nelly Korda — 37.5-1
Fans of both the men’s and women’s games can get a little sweat by parlaying the winners of each event. This week, with two huge favorites on each side, pairing them up to win would pay out 37.5-1 instead of just the 4.5-1 for Rahm and 6-1 for Korda. Both are playing incredibly well recently and would love to add a gold medal to their trophy cases.
