UFC Betting Picks & Predictions: UFC Vegas 47 Strickland vs Hermansson

Denys Bondar vs Malcolm Gordon

In the opening fight of the night, low-level flyweight Denys Bondar takes on Malcolm Gordon. Bondar will be making his UFC debut this weekend after an 18-month layoff from the regional scene. He was booked to make his UFC debut against Ode Osbourne early last year, but that got cancelled, and he was originally scheduled to fight Gordon in November, but that got rescheduled to this weekend. Bondar is 16-3 on the regional scene, however, he is on a 10-fight winning streak. All of those wins have come inside the distance, five by submission and five by knockout. Gordon will be making his fourth appearance in the UFC this weekend, going 1-2 in his first three fights. Both losses came inside the distance to Amir Albazi and Su Mudaerji. His lone victory came against Francisico Figueiredo, which was by decision — and you could make a case the only reason Figueiredo is in the UFC is because he is the brother of current flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo. On top of the two losses by finish in the UFC, Gordon has three other losses on the regional scene and all of those came inside the distance as well. Factor in Bondar winning 10 straight by finish and Gordon never losing by decision, getting -105 Vegas betting odds on Bondar to finish inside the distance is very good value. I would bet that up until -115.

Sam Alvey vs. Brendan Allen

Sam Alvey was originally scheduled to fight Phil Hawes but Hawes had to withdraw from the fight on Tuesday, so Brendan Allen took the fight on less than a week’s notice. The original fight was supposed to take place at 185 pounds, but because Allen is a very short-notice replacement, they agreed to the fight at 205 pounds. If anything, that is a small advantage for Alvey, who has fought at light heavyweight before. however, Alvey is winless in his last eight UFC appearances, so it is surprising he is getting another chance. Allen is making his eighth UFC appearance this weekend with a 5-2 record so far, but both losses were knockout losses to Alvey’s teammates Chris Curtis and this week’s main-event fighter Sean Strickland. At this stage in Alvey’s career, Curtis and Strickland especially are much better fighters than Alvey, but the camp is very familiar with Allen, which will give Alvey a very good game plan. The problem with Alvey is always output. He just never lets his hands go and likes to stand against the cage and wait. In 21 UFC fights. Alvey has never landed more than 82 significant strikes in a fight and that fight was his UFC debut all the way back in 2014. His next-highest output in 63 significant strikes over 15 minutes, which is extremely low output. Allen, who is a massive -435 favorite, on the other hand, will try to wrestle as he has three submission victories in the UFC, but because this fight is at 205 and Allen taking the fight on five day’s notice, he may struggle to get the fight to the mat. Thus, he could tire in the later rounds because his training and preparation for this fight is uncertain. Chances are this is a very ugly low-output fight that will go the full 15. If you want to bet the fight goes the distance at +120 (DraftKings Sportsbook), that is fine. With the over 2.5 at basically even money, the bettor will be eliminating any fluke finishes in the final 2.5 minutes of the fight.

UFC Best Bet: Alvey/Allen Over 2.5 Rounds -102 (FanDuel Sportsbooks)
