Monkey Knife Fight PGA Picks This Week for The WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational

For the final WGC of the season, the PGA Tour travels to TPC Southwind (par 70, 7,238 yards) in Memphis, Tenn. for the 2021 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Just like last week at the Olympics, this is a small, no-cut event with only 66 players competing. Included in this field is 48 of the top-50 ranked players in the world, and the average winning score at TPC Southwind over the last five years has been 14.2 strokes under par. If you have not already, this week is a perfect time to check out Monkey Knife Fight — a new style of PGA fantasy with a twist on the usual DFS golf this week — with the fantasy site offering some great contests for the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Below I will break down some of the best fantasy golf Monkey Knife Fight picks for this week.

MKF Fantasy Golf Picks | WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational

This Monkey Knife Fight contest is like a prop in that players must choose if each golfer will score more or less of their fantasy line. If both are correct, the payout is 2.5 times the buy-in. It is worth noting that MKF’s fantasy golf scoring system is different compared to other DFS sites. No points are awarded for finishing position or streaks, nor do players lose points for bogeys. Their scoring system is simple:

Eagle or Better: 5

Birdie: 3

Par: 1

Collin Morikawa: More than 99.5 fantasy points

Xander Schauffele: Less than 99.5 fantasy points

Morikawa is the best iron player in the world right now. Four of the past six golfers to win at this track have been either first or second in strokes gained on approach, and this season no player on tour has gained more strokes with their irons than Morikawa. Another skill that is crucial for success at TPC Southwind is par-4 efficiency. As a par 70, this course has 12 par 4’s and only two par 5’s, and nine of the past 10 St. Jude champions have finished in the top 10 in strokes gained on the par 4’s. Over his last 24 rounds on tour Morikawa ranks second in strokes gained on par 4’s, and two of his past three victories have come at par 70s.

It is very difficult to argue against Schauffele, but taking his under this week feels like the right choice. Expecting Schauffele to contend in Memphis after winning the gold medal in Tokyo this past weekend is unreasonable, especially with TPC Southwind presenting Bermuda greens. Schauffele has missed two of his past three cuts at Bermuda courses, and he has a modest 28.3 average finish at TPC Southwind in three career starts.

Brooks Koepka: More than 17.5 birdies

Jordan Spieth: More than 17.5 birdies

Koepka is a no brainer to exceed this birdie total this week. He travels to Memphis with four top-six finishes in his previous five starts and ranks third in strokes gained tee to green and seventh in birdie-or-better percentage over his last 24 rounds. Plus, Koepka’s track record at TPC Southwind is jaw dropping. In seven starts at this course Koepka has generated four top-three finishes, including a runner-up last season and a victory 2019. He won by 3 strokes that week and averaged 21.5 birdies per start at the past two St. Jude Invitationals.

Spieth has been a birdie-making machine and should be well rested after skipping the Olympics. At the British Open he finished with 20 birdies, which was the second most for the major. That was the fifth time in his last eight starts that Spieth eclipsed 18 birdies, and recently he has been an outstanding par-4 player. Spieth ranks first in strokes gained on par 4’s over the last 24 rounds, and his last two attempts on par 70s have resulted in a pair of runner-up finishes.
