PGA One and Done: Expert PGA Picks This Week for the 2022 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

The PGA Tour continues its California swing this week with the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am set to begin. This is another staple of early-season PGA in which the players are paired with a celebrity in what tends to be a relaxed environment. Unfortunately, it is a complicated tournament with a three-course rotation and Saturday cut, but there is still money to be made in One and Done. Although these are not majors, it is still very important to bank quality results early in the season.

PGA One and Done Golf Picks: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

What is a One and Done pool?

A One and Done pool has some similarities with NFL survivor pools except that players cannot be eliminated early for making a poor pick. Each week players have to select one golfer, and their prize money earned that week become points for the player. The same player cannot be used twice, just like an NFL survivor contest, so strategy and knowing when to save a top-tier player can make the difference. At the end of the season, the team with the most cumulative earning is in line for a big payoff. Pools will pay several spots, depending on it is size, similar to a GPP structure from PGA DFS.

Farmers Insurance One and Done Recap

Tony Finau

This was a major landmine, as Tony Finau missed the cut at a course he usually loves. He was never in contention and did not put up much of a fight to find the final two days. This was a popular choice across One and Done pools, so a lot of people registered $0 last week. It is disappointing but not overly concerning, as there is plenty of time to make up ground.

Will Zalatoris

Will Zalatoris nearly broke through for his first PGA Tour victory, and the second-place finish netted $915,000 early in the season. Zalatoris rode fantastic ball striking, and if one more putt had fallen, he would have taken down the tournament. He should have more opportunities to get into contention, and he will most likely be used by everyone at some point this season.

Luke List

It would have been very aggressive to go to Luke List in One and Done, but playing him led to $1.5 million in the One and Done bank. List has been so close so many times and was able to defeat Zalatoris in an epic playoff on Saturday. He was a popular DFS play but a very low-owned One and Done choice, so most people will not be too affected by him winning at the Farmers.

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am One and Done Picks This Week

Jordan Spieth

Similar to Tony Finau last week, Spieth has a ton of history and success at Pebble Beach and this tournament. He is coming off a missed cut, but that was at a place that clearly does not suit his game. Now driving will become less of a necessity, and his world-class short game can carry him at these tracks. Spieth’s irons have been poor to start the season, but if those flip to the positives, he once again should be in contention come Sunday.

Jason Day

Jason Day is another course horse, having consistently found the first page of the leaderboard here. Pair that with his top-five finish last week for a potentially popular One and Done choice. Day seems healthy, has the game in form and comes to a course that should not be overly demanding. He gained 3.9 strokes putting, and if that is a sign that he fixed the flat stick, this is a great spot to buy. On the DFS side he should be very popular, so this is another way to get exposure to Day this week.

Maverick McNealy

To go down the board a little, Maverick McNealy is a great option. He was runner-up at this event last year and has the skill set to once again be in contention. McNealy has made six straight cuts and really does not have a glaring weakness in his game. California has been one of his better stops on tour, and it sets up for him to get his first of what could be several PGA Tour wins. In addition, using him is not an opportunity cost, as he is not yet in the conversation for big tournaments like majors and WGCs.

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Open One and Done Pick: Jason Day

All three options above project to be popular choices, so it is best to just try to bank results and stay in the hunt. Seeing what looked like a healthy Jason Day last week was encouraging, and now he comes to a perfect setup for him in Pebble Beach. Day may not have won this event, but the course history is insane, with his worst finish in the last five years here being a tie for seventh. That type of consistency paired up with his game being in better shape than previous years makes him valuable, even if he is popular. Day should do what he always does here, which is find the top of the leaderboard and land at least a six-figure payday.
