I am primarily a GPP PGA DFS player and enjoy making up to 450 lineups, so the allocations I give out are likely not exact, but they are my target for the mass-entry GPPs. And so, if this is your first time reading it, let’s go over what you can find in it.

Key/Legend

The following sections define who will play and what recommended allocation you should play them at:

  • Core: We will start with these golfers in every lineup. At least two from my core will be in every one of the lineups.
  • PFs: We all have our guys, and these are mine. They will be in the player pool at a minimum of 20%. I have seven, and they are quite common: Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Spieth, Brian Harman, Collin Morikawa, Brian Stuard and, at times, Bryson DeChambeau.
  • Chalk Zone: These golfers are expected to be the most popular golfers of the week. They are supposed to be widely owned, and so, in a massive GPP, a winning lineup likely won’t have more than one of the guys listed in this area.
  • Alternates: On the PGA Tour, alternates are lucky to get in the field each week. However, it happens all the time due to injuries. In this section, we’ll identify a few lineup alternates that can help fill a lineup and still provide some decent upside.
  • Recommended Allocation: The percentage of time said golfer should be in your lineups, or at least what we are advocating.
  • Projected Ownership: The percentage that the field will have said golfer in their lineups.
  • Variance: The difference between Recommended Allocation and Projected Ownership. A favorable variance gives you leverage.

Last Week’s Recap

I am not going to say this game is easy. But given the fact that I had Bryson DeChambeau and Jordan Spieth as my two most rostered, including in my big-dollar lineup, I would have thought I breezed to a profitable week, but the Justin Rose withdrawal crushed me, and the continued reliance on Cameron Champ is now done.

Players Championship PGA DFS Picks

All of my favorites are here, and all of them are in play. It makes it tough to decide who to give the big bucks to. Collin Morikawa coming off of a big win seems like an easy fade; after each of his first couple of wins, he didn’t perform all that great in his next start. Also, he’s the most expensive of my big three, so he’ll likely get pushed to overweight on the GPP lineups while missing out on him in the bigger dollar stuff. For DeChambeau, I’m not sure his new power game will translate all that well here, but he could prove me wrong.

Core Golfers (DraftKings Price/FanDuel Price)

Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele

I list these two golfers together because that’s who I decided to go with in terms of my big-dollar lineups you see above. I was able to stack Schauffele, Morikawa and Webb Simpson in my $200 lineup on DraftKings and used Jon Rahm as an anchor to a balanced lineup on FanDuel. I will have about 20% of each of them in my GPP lineups, and I will have a bit more on Rahm since he is projected as the lowest-owned out of the bunch.

Tony Finau ($9,100/$10,800)

Finau has played here four times and finished better each time. In 2019, the first time this tournament was played in March, Finau came in 22nd, his best showing yet. We saw him compete again down at the WGC-Workday, but the greens at Concession were much harder than the ones he will face this week. I think this track sets up great for where Finau’s game is.

Tommy Fleetwood ($7,900/$10,200)

It seems I wasn’t all that early on Fleetwood last week, and he came in 10th. Now heading to TPC Sawgrass on his third week of competition, the timing is perfect for him to get into a rhythm. Plus Fleetwood has the best recent history here of anyone, coming in the top 10 in both of his trips.

Joaquin Niemann ($7,700/$9,800)

Niemann’s game has really transcended to become one of the best on tour, and he is the cheapest among the star young players. I want to take advantage of that this week in the high-dollar lineup, but I will likely come in slightly underweight for my GPP lines.

Abraham Ancer ($7,500/$9,400)

When I think of Ancer’s skill set, there aren’t many tracks that I would feel he is best suited for. The par 5’s at Sawgrass are all manageable, and Ancer can either get there in 2 or put a wedge in his hand. Plus, the other approach shots are longer, about 200 yards, and he also handles those well. His short game is what lets him down, but these greens have  treated him well in the past, so there is no need to fade that here this week.

Lanto Griffin ($7,300/$8,900)

This is effectively a home course for Griffin, and his game also appears to be trending in the right direction. I think he presents an easy spot to get leverage at mid ownership, and he is also the lowest-priced golfer to find my lineup on FanDuel.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout ($7,100/$9,500)

Last week I took several golfers in this range, including Ian Poulter and Brendon Todd, but this week I am going to stick with Bezuidenhout and spread out the ownership instead of focusing in.

Gambles of the Week: (Under $7,000 in a Big-Dollar Lineup)

There are plenty of options down here to choose from. I’m going to start with a bit of a conservative play and get more aggressive down the board.

  1. Brian Harman ($6,900/$8,400): Harman presents nice value and has a decent track record around here. He also scores extremely well when he’s able to make the weekend, something I think the next guy is also pretty good at.
  2.  Bernd Wiesberger ($6,800/$7,900): Having played quite nicely at the Arnold Palmer, Wiesberger comes to TPC Sawgrass for the first time since 2017, when he finished 12th. He also made the cut in 2016, so he has some good experience around this track. He will be very low-owned in single-entry contests, around 1 or 2%, so that’s where I’ll use him this week.
