Tonight’s Top Monkey Knife Fight MLB Player Prop PicksÂ
Astros vs. White Sox ‘More or Less’ Contest (3x Buy-In)
Framber Valdez takes on the team with the best wOBA (.352) against left-handed pitching this season. Knowing that, the southpaw’s strikeout prop (6.5) seems a bit high for the moment. Yet, for some reason, I can’t look away. The Chicago White Sox have been striking out a bit more recently, with a 24.2% K-rate over the last 14 days; they are right around league average at 23.6% vs. lefties this season. Valdez had a tough time racking up strikeouts in his last start, with only two of them in seven innings against the Minnesota Twins. However, I’m thinking that was an unfortunate misnomer since he fanned a combined 18 batters in the previous two starts.
No one will ever doubt the talent Lance Lynn has, but we can question whether he’ll reach six strikeouts tonight. After all, the Astros are contact gods against right-handed pitching, as the only team in MLB with a K-rate under 20% — they’re at 19.3% in that split. Lynn will have his hands full in general, as the Astros have an MLB-best .393 wOBA over the last 14 days to go along with a 0.45 BB/K-rate (second-best in MLB). To put those in numbers in a similar perspective, only five starting pitchers (Pivetta, Rodon, Berrios, Ober, Kershaw) have struck out six Astros or more over the last 25 games.

Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks ‘More or Less’ Contest (3x Buy-In)
Walker Buehler should get the win tonight, but him getting to seven strikeouts could be tougher than advertised. It’s easy to pick on the Arizona Diamondbacks, who were 15-14 at one point this season. After last night’s loss, the 15th in a row and 29th in the last 31 games, they now sit at 20-51. As you would imagine, Arizona ranks dead last in wOBA (.261) over the last 14 days. However, this team really hasn’t struck out to the point where we absolutely need to pick on them. In fact, the Diamondbacks are right at league average in most K-rate splits. Buehler’s 6.5 prop number seems a tad high, considering he has only exceeded that mark once in his last five starts.
Ketel Marte may fetch quite the haul for this rebuilding franchise before the trade deadline, so he might as well get those Arizona hacks in while he can. As one of the only real threats in this lineup, Marte can get on base in several different ways. Buehler has struggled to keep Marte off base in their career meetings, with him going 6-for-19 with two walks and two strikeouts. I’ll take the over on 1.5 hits + walks in this matchup, and we do get the advantage of his switch-hitting ability if the Los Angeles Dodgers decide to mix it up out of the bullpen.
